  1. dannyboy you was right its was 180 degrees out. cheers. the only trouble is ive got a tappy head
  2. this is what i thought i needed to do. i have the lead going clock wise around the cap 1 3 4 2, 1 being where the rota arm points at tdc. im not sure i completely understand the 180 degrees out thing as this is all a steep learning curve.
  3. no that the annoying thing it dont even start and run like a bag of spanners, and yeah tried it full throttle
  4. yeah tested each spark plug against the head and getting a good spark on all cylinders and its getting fuel as when i remove the spark plugs they have fuel on them
  5. its not the belt timing thats out ive check this a couple of times after reading the manual alot just to make sure. does the timing need to be advanced or what? also would the knock sensor cause the engine not to start or the ISV? im just throwing some ideas out there
  6. yeah its facing cylinder 4, which would be cylinder one on the cap, not cylinder four on the cap ---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 PM ---------- it maybe be better to do once running, but its the getting it to run im struggling with lol
  7. Ive just changed the engine in my G60 as I lost compression in a couple of cylinders, but ive now got a new engine in but im getting confused over setting the ignition timing up. ive borrowed a mates bently manual and set the dizzy to top dead cente, with the little mark facing cyclinder 4 and the rota arm inline with this. but it still wont start, the plugs are getting wet so its getting fuel. would this way of setting it up makes it too advanced. i also noticed the ISV on the inlet just makes a clicking noise where im pretty sure it hummed before. hope this makes sure to someone. If someone could help me as i really want it back on the road lol cheers james
  8. quick up date, tried everything people said on here but it has lost it compression i got hold of a tester yesterday. So looks like I be trying a engine change! looking on the positive side it gives me a chance to have a good clean up and paint and maybe a few mods. Cheers
  9. Cheers, i will check this in the morning hopefully get it sorted. ha
  10. Im currently looking to see if the crank bolt has gone but im not entrly sure what im looking for, ive got the car on stands with the wheel off and belt covers removed. do i need to take anything else off plus where are the timing marks, are they the same as a normal 1.8 8v?
  11. When I had the plugs out earlier they where wet and you could smell petrol when turning the engine over. i dont think it is the crank bolt as with checking for a spark I could see the pistons moving. but I will look more into the fuel pump, filter and relay in the morning. cheers for all the responses, it been a great help. And which connector would this be?
  12. Cam belt is all good had the cam cover off to check this at the road side. just been out and fuel is getting up to the rail, so i have a spark fuel and turning over but still not firing?
  13. yeah you can hear it start up when you turn the key, and I checked that all cylinders are getting a spark. I ll go out and see if the fuel is getting through to the rail.
  14. i was wondering if any g60 owners could help me, ive just got in after breaking down in my g60. I slowly lost all power over the space of a mile the car not reving over 2000 revs in any gear but when the clutch was in it rev'd better. This then lead to the engine cutting out all together! And then failing to start! No oil leaks or signs of loose parts or connections that i could see at the road side. When I turned it over, it did turn over quite fast which makes me think maybe some compession loss? But as i havnt owned a g60 before this could be normal as im guessing they run lower compession anyway. If anyone could shed so light on what i should try first it would be a great help as im stumped. Cheers James
  15. Im looking to fit a oil cooler set up on my g60 and was looking for some advice on where to position it? im currently running a rally front mounted intercooler and pipe work. if anyone throw some ideas my way it would be a big help cheers.
