pm on way mate :)

Forgive me, your completely right im getting them mixed up again ! I always get them the wrong way round when chopping and changing LOL NGK = Higher Number for Cooler Plug Bosch = Lower Number for Cooler Plug You would be looking at a BP7EVX or BP8EVX in NGK terms. the BP7EVX is equivelant to your Bosch W5DP0 Sorry for the confusion !

What your saying is correct, you cant actually adjust the off idle advance, but if you adjust the base advance it has an overall effect on the advance over the whole rev range. The wee box you mention controls the advance during actual running but uses the base timing setting as its starting point which is in turn set mechanically by moving the dizzy.

I also was under the impression that the 6 degrees value was for 98 RON. I will have a look over it again tonight and possibly advance it to 8 degrees and see how it gets on :) ---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ---------- Cheers for that David, I used to have some det cans for remapping all the jap stuff I was into but when I got rid of the car I also sold off all of my gear such as my cans and my wideband kit. Kinda wish I had kept them now as Id have been able to get some good advance dialed in and been able to hear the DET before it was at a damaging level. I think I will go for 8 degrees and see how it feels/sounds then take it from there. I am also taking it to a guy I used to use years ago when I had my Mk2's called Ralph Payne. He was part of teh VW motorsport team and was teh head VW tech who actually wrote some of the VW factory tech manuals and procedures. Hes actually got a genuine copy of the Digifant set up procedures in his workshop and its a genuine VAG copy and he was the author which is kinda cool. Im really just popping along so that he can set my mixture properly as I know for a fact its miles off. I usually dont use garages at all but this guy is a pro when it comes to these old Dubs so I trust him.

As per the title someone has at some point removed my front door speaker grills/pods. I still have the door pocket part but theres a speaker hole toward the front with no speaker in it and I want to put some in but obviously want the covers too.

Ok folks my question is this. I know the stock timing figure for the KR is 6 Deg BTDC at idle with the coil red wire disconnected. However as with tuning any petrol engine more advance on the timing generally = more power so has anyone on here experimented with that theory and increased the dizzy advance ? If so what value have you found to be ideal ? On the old mk1 MX5's the stock setting was 10 deg BTDC but I always found they ran far better set to 12 deg BTDC until you boosted them in which case I used to use a piggy back ECU to remap it and pull the timing right back under load and on boost. These adjusted values used to see me getting 129bhp @ 12 deg from the stock N/A cars as opposed to the factory 116bhp @ 10deg and additionally in the region of 240bhp from the boosted 1.6's with the remap and otehr supporting mods. I assume similar gains should theoretically be possible from the KR ?

Ah ok yes, as I thought those are not "traditional" plugs and are similar to the likes of the Iridium NGK ones I used to use on all my boosted cars. As such you should not really re-gap them as they come pre gapped from the factory and there quite delicate. The other issue with that type of plug is that they are really crap if they get fouled and it can pretty much destroy them so if your exisitng ones are manky then that may well be causing your misfire. ---------- Post added at 01:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 PM ---------- See new reply below

Exactly mate, however take care as you are not able to re-gap some plugs ( or at least your not really meant to ) Which plugs are you running on it ?
-
Having owned many "boosted" cars I can safely say it sounds like you are suffering from ignition breakdown going by what you have described. What this effectively means is that that your spark is being "blown out" This is usually down to the spark being too weak which in turn is usually due to either duff plugs or your HT leads tracking. It can also be due to badly gapped plugs or worn dizzy arm/cap. If you have spare leads swap those first and see how you get on as about 90% of the time I have had this issue has been through HT leads failing or coilpacks deteriorating.

Top man I will let you know when it arrives :) Hopefully it will solve my problem !

Hey mate, sounds ideal I will double check mine first as it seems to have started working properly again over the weekend but if its goosed ill drop you a PM :)

Thanks chaps, Some more up to date photos for you - Next up is sorting the active spoiler and the MFA as I have a faulty VSS sensor on the speedo head so have managed to get a full set of clock off someone on here. Just waiting for them to be sent out now and hopefully all will be well once again ! -
PM sent :) CHeers !

Yes and no, its got a G60 system fitted but still retains the original KR front pipe/silencer so I dont think its that. I guess injectors could be an issue though as it did sit for ages and had old fuel run through it. I may try giving the injectors a clean and see if it makes any difference.

Hmm no cant have been me mate, Drove up to Aberdeen on Wednesday at about 7:30am and did'nt come back down until about 4:30pm Yes I got the car from Bruce, awesome guy and I think he was genuinely gutted that it was going but he just wasnt able to sort it all out due to his bad back. Im over in Paisley but my parents are from fife and I visit regularly so no doubt it will be spotted all over the place, it doesnt exactly blend into the background haha !
-
Hi rod i believe its part of the speedo assembly so I would be happy to take your whole gauge cluster if the price is right :)
-
Yeh this ones much like that as its fine above 4k. Its only done 100k and has full VAG history, its not even run in yet with that mileage really lol :)
-
Ahh that works, here are some more

There 15's Jim, they look small in that photo but in the flesh now that the ride height is all sorted they actually look ok :) On another note though where are you seeing the pictures Jim as I dont see the post I made with them anywhere ?

Hey folks, I am looking for a couple of things. 1) working headlamp switch for my 1990 valver, mine only works occasionally which makes night time driving rather scary ! 2) VSS sensor for the mechanical speedo as mine has packed in meaning I have no auto spoiler or MFA displays for MPG & Speed Cash waiting and can pay via paypal or whatever. Please let me know if you can help out.

Hello folks, forgive me if I seem silly but its been quite a few years since I last messed about with a KR engine. After setting the ignition timing and idle speed correctly on my valver it does seem to run well however it does feel a bit flat low down in the revs and I dont remeber my Golf feeling like that. I have also done a full service so it has fresh plugs etc. Mine still runs the 42mm inlet manifold at the moment but I do have the 50mm one sitting there which I will be fitting once I get new brass inserts for the injectors. I just wondered in the meantime if anyone could think of any reason why it would feel sluggish in the low rev range ? I am reluctant to fit the 50mm manifold until I am certain its all running sweet as it is but I am wondering if its just needing the mixture adjusted and if that is indeed the case should I wait to have it done after fitting the new manifold too ? P.S it pulls hard after about 4-4.5k right upto the red line but before this seems a bit pants.

Have just replied to this with photos but its awaiting approval ! LOL

haha well hopefully you like mine, shes far from complete but is looking 100000000000 times better than she did after sitting outside in teh sun for 7 months untouched ! I have added pics to my other thread that I just started but here they are again. They were only taken in a hurry on my phone and I still hadnt set the suspension properly or cleaned the wheels but at least you can see the car overall untill I get some proper photos :)

I have always wanted one of these ever since I was right into VAG stuff after passing my test, however I ended up bitten by the Jap car bug so never did get around to owning one. Shes a 1990 VW Corrado 16v in Nugget Yellow Additionally this one was fitted with optional full leather interior which is a bonus ! I picked this car up over in Edinburgh off of a Scottish Vag member and it comes with FULL VAG history, thousands of £'s worth of receipts and has only covered 3-4k miles per year resulting in an extremely low mileage of just 100,000 miles. Unfortunately back at the end of last year the heater matrix exploded but due to a back injury he was unable to sort it so it has sat off the road for the last 7 months or so. The result of this was that the car looked extremely tatty when I collected it, it didnt run right at all and the yellow was extremely faded in places. Some of his friends had tried to help out by doing some bits and bobs to the car for him but again this was not great and I have basically had to strip it inside and out and sort everything properly. I have managed to get 3 full days on it and it has paid off. Day one consisted of me stripping back the whole interior and dash etc to allow me to fix the blown heater matrix and properly clean up all of the leather. Whilst I had the dash in bits I removed the remains of the original alarm system as it had been disconnected and replaced with a clifford unit. I also tidied up all of the wiring loom behind the dash and under the drivers side as it was a complete dogs dinner. Lots of missing and incorrect bolts and screws were replaced and all of the interior trim panels were re fitted correctly resulting in the interior looking like new again Day two was time to get the Outside looking as good as the inside, so with the loan of a machine polisher and some cracking weather I got stuck in, I genuinley thought I may have to fork out for a respray due to some of the fading but I was lucky and must have caught it just in time as about 95% of the paintwork all came up back to near perfect ! Now that the car was looking like much less of an eyesore sitting in my parents driveway I decided to turn my attention to the ride height. The car had recently had a set of new coilovers fitted before it went off the road but the previous owner had decided to sacrafice handling for looks and slammed it as low as it would go. I like my cars low but there has to be a limit and the Corrado was well past that limit ! I free'd up all of the coilover platforms and got the rideheight sorted. I gave the engine bay a good pressure washing next as I knew I was now going to have to spend some time under the hood. I charged up the flat battery throughout the day so decided before giving up for the night I would see if it would start. It spluttered to life but sounded very sick and would not rev or idle properly. I instantly thought I knew the cause from my previous VW experiences and was pleased that when I moved back the inlet pipe to the throttle body I was presented with the ripped joiner I was expecting to see. This meant removing it from the car and carrying out a repair procedure I know of but did also mean it would have to set overnight before I could refit it so that brought day 2 to an end. Day 3 started off in the workshop with me checking out how the previous nights repair had worked out. As expected it was spot on so I got straight back under the bonnet and fitted the now repaired pipe. I also noticed some damaged vac pipework that was leaky and improperly connected so replaced this at the same time. After a quick check over my fluid levels and manually bleeding the cooling system it was time to go for attempt 2 at starting it up to see if it ran any better with the air leak sorted. On the second rotation of the engine it sprung stairght into life and sounded 100 times better than before but still not quite right and still felt boggy on pressing the pedal. I knew that the car had a brand new distributor fitted so instantly thought the cause was that the timing was probably not set right I let the temp come up and after ensuring that the heater matrix was now leak free I got out the timing light and adjusted that correctly. It turned out to be well out and as soon as it was set to the correct 6 degrees BTDC the revs picked up and it started to idle much more smoothly. Now that it was running well and revving freely it was time to fix the exhaust system which was leaking very badly and banging off the bottom of the car. I got underneath and removed it all from the car, a few tweaks were made to hangers etc then I cleaned it all up and got it all bolted back on properly without too much hassle. I have a few more bits and bobs to do but overall she is up and running and back on the road where she belongs ! Here are some photos for you all, they are not the best as were taken on my phone and the car was still not fully cleaned up but I will add better pictures later.
