removed the rear number plate light cover and repainted it, touched up the little bit of rust under the light housing with kurust and repainted it , then replaced the cover. Looked in despair and the two idiotic sized spaekers that were fitted into the butchered parcel shelf by the previous owner and thought, WHY !!!! Andy

Adrian Flux was by far the cheapest for me at £280 without protecting my 10 NCB and said I would lose 7 years ish if I had a claim. I pointed out that the 10 years is actually 24 years but most insurance cap it at 10. Made no difference. I rang them back to enquire what it would be with no NCB £310 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not garaged so I took it. Ok mine is a 2.0.16V but they are worth a try. But £30 off for 24 years clean driving WTF. We had this discussion on the MX5 forum and it seems insuring your insurance ie protecting NCB is becoming a bit of a joke. One guy was asked to stump up £200 just to protect them. Flux said my policy would be over £500 if I protected them so there maybe something in this. Its bloody madness all the same. But take heart. I just tried to insure my 18yr old daughter who has just passed her test on Monday. A 1.1LX Peugeot 206 2002 no mods.............................Over £4000:bonk: Good luck Andy

Hi Tim I was sure I had replied to this but it's not showing. I am interested. But what is in the place of the cigarette lighter? I cannot tell from the pic Andy

Thanks for trying Elliot ---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 PM ---------- Yeh Alan that was me. I must admit so far I am very happy with it. Its not perfect but its a good base. I am now questioning why I moved on from VW's in the first place. I think I have found a competitor to the mx5 for putting stupid grins on my face  Andy

Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)

Looks good Jay. Having just bought mine which is standard apart from it being lowered I have to agree with you in keeping it as original as possible. I got my modding cheque book ready but having looked at mine very closely I thought sod it its lovely as it is. I intend to maintain it, repair it when needed and look after it as it is. But most of all enjoy driving it. Its been about 5 years since I had my last Golf and it put a smile on my face to drive this I cannot believe I have never owned one before. Its the same with my Mk1 MX5, all hairdresser jokes aside everyone should at least have a drive of one of those to. Both great cars Andy -
Well I spent a very rainy day washing the car yesterday and fixing most of the damage to the centre console and replacing the screws and connectors that had not been replaced. Took her for a spin and very very few rattles well none if I am honest a slight squeak from the clocks but I can live with that. So got back checked the oil. It had none. Topped it up shut the bonnet and off I went to hoover it taKe it for another blast and drop my brothers birthday card of and show him the car. He had left his car on the road so I pulled on the drive. We admired the car for a while then I went to go after a coffe to find a large pool of oil under my car. Damm thinks I. After all the praise I had been giving it it came back and bit me on the arse. So I moved it off the drive cleaned his newish flags!! and was about to walk home. It was then I realised I had not put the oil filler cap back on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In 26 years driving I have never done this. What an unholy mess I have made of the engine bay. The last time I saw an enginge bay look this messy I had just blown the head of my first car a Mk2 Escort. So time to get the gunk out and clean the engine. I feel an absolute idiot. So come on guys n girls make me feel better what idiotic things have you done ? Andy

Hi Tim It looks ok from the pics if the damage is just to the inside stereo trim on the left. Plus what is where the cigarette lighter goes as I can't work it out from the pics Andy
-
Hi Tim. Sounds promising as 3 of mine are snapped !! If it's black and otherwise unmarked I will take it. It is the later version though isn't it ? Do you have a pic? How do you want me to pay? I have paypal if that's easier for you Andy
-
The bit that fits around the stereo, vents, Hvac and ashtray. I think it stops at the cubby hole at the bottom. Not 100% sure as I have not removed mine yet but I have found the guy before me broke most of the lugs that hold in the Hvac controls and snapped out the ashtray Andy
-
Hi Alan we will have to meet and compare cars although I am sure yours will be much better than mine so you can give me a few tips !! Elliot thanks very much thats very good of you. Let me know Andy

I have the same problem on a 95. As a temporary solution I have disconnected the windscreen cable and closed it on the windscreen. I now just use the second vent cable. This means the vent to the windscreen will always be open but I can still direct air to the other vents. I will eventually replace the cable but it will do for now. I found when stripping it out that the hvac control unit itself was fine. Thank god for that as they seem very expensive and hard to get hold of Andy
-
Well I stripped out the heater control and the guy before me has broken it. So I need another one. What's the best place to source this part. I looked on eBay and classifieds on here no luck. Mine are obviously the later type as it's a 95 model Thanks Andy

Thanks for the link James I will have a look at that soon. Also thanks for the welcome. I do intend to come to some meets so I will keep my eye open for them. Jay I live in Widnes. On further investigation the guy who I bought it off ran a large speaker wire from the boot through the centre console and into the back of the radio. It looks like he has dislodged the vent direction control and the dials are either on the wrong side or dislodged from the back (why don't people just do things properly!!) So I need to strip that down and have a look if I can get them all working again. If not its thermal fuse time. Fun times ahead. Andy

Well I picked her up and she seems fine overall. Full service history 166000 miles all old MOT's and stacks of receipts and I mean stacks of them. The only faults so far are drivers mirror doesn't work and the heater fan only works on speed 4. Sunroof tilts and slides, spoiler raises and goes back down as it should, windows work new wiper motor all lights work even the vanity one and the one in the boot. No leaks, tyres are good as is the bodywork. Very small amount of rust on the sills which I will need to look at in the following year but not urgent. Interior is very good. It doesn't rattle or bang or make strange noises and brakes as it should, handbrake is also good. So I am made up with her so far although my cheque book is at the ready I have also sneaked in a cheeky one of my other overdraft assistant  Andy

Hi All I have wanted a Corrado for ages now ever since getting rid of my last golf (had 5 in total) So I went mad and bought one blind and cheap from ebay so I expect I will become a frequent user of this site :bonk: It is a white 1995 2.0 with high mileage a full 12months MOT and 1 months tax :smug: A claimed full service history, lowered and it is also claimed that everything works including the spoiler. We shall see. Having spent the last couple of years restoring my Mk1 MX5 I thought it was time to take the plunge and get one of these before I become sensible, act my age and buy an estate or something. So here I am about to collect it today. I will post pics when I get it if this bloody weather eases up. Fingers crossed its not an absolute dog that will cost me even more than the mx5 did which I still have and still love Do I post the pics here or in the Gallery or both? Andy
