Im on the clubgti forums, as normally i run a mk2 and just sold a lovely run out with a 20vt. I have a mk1 Gti atm and its stripped ready for the next conversion. I was planning on a 9A, cammed and bvh, twin 45's or turbo it. I really wanted to turbo the 9A, but still use the carbs. Then this Rado popped up, with a few silly niggles and crappy wheels. I was going to rape it for my MK1, but when it arrived on the trailer, i just could'nt do it. So sorted out the niggles put my BBS rims and new rubber on and a set of new coilys. Refurbed and replaced braking, now runs real dope and sounds like a touring car. So much so my mk1 is on the back burner, but i really need to get on with it and finish the 9A conversion.

Easy, just slow over the ramps or avoid them altogether,lol. Yeh bought it with quite a few issues, nothing major just easy fixes. It never looked anything like it does now, when i first bought it. So after sorting the minor issues, i put my own stamp on it, rims,coilys etc...Rides well and pulls even better.

Wire the fan directly to the battery, if it wont kick in theres the fault. Try the fuse as these are known to fail, and check the wiring if you have disturbed it.hth

Dude, there is no such thing as a budget 16VT, you need minimum s2 pistons and boring to 2.1 changes your choice of ideal turbo. Complete turbo kits are far far from it. You need a sump made with an oil return, Manifold, either S2 cut n weld or a proper custom cast iron nickel one (£600), injectors to suit the turbo, fmic, pipework, ecu, loom, all associated pipework and sensors, inlet manifold, fuel pump,regulator, radiator, custom fans,engine mounts,gearbox etc etc....A 2.1 stroker will be laggy if you dont match the right turbo, you need an aftermarket ecu, then it mapped. Dude i honestly could go on forever, the reason they 16vt is so rare is that, firstly no-one makes a comprehensive kit for it, secondly the cost and amount of work involved is unreal, especially if you cant do it yourself. A 20VT is an easier more affordable option and you have a far better choice of how to do it. If you are deffo set on doing it, try digging around on some of the german vw sites, its still being done over there, but its still mega money dude.

I turned my garage into a self contained flat for my daughter, when she comes back from UNI. So the wife bought me the cover so i can keep at it. Legend. Mind you ive got my Boys to help me out in return for rebuilding there BMX's for them.

Its running a 20VT, with aftermarket ECU. I was going to butcher it and shoehorn it into my mk1 gti, but after putting my "Saved For Best" BBS RM's on, it looks real trick and fat. My poor mk1 will have to do with a ported, cammed, carb'd 9A, which was my intention anyway especially as i already have the set up for it. So i dont feel so bad now. As far as being sensible, never occured to me how to be,lol. My wife is awsome on my projects, never moans or comes out with, Oh God Not Another One, just thats nice, What Is It,LOL.

Did you use front or rear 4 pots. Mine bolted straight onto the hubs using a specific spacer i had made. Discs were 280mm if i remember, because of the caliper clearance. I could have used brackets to lift them away, but my splittys would'nt have fitted. Still stopped bang on though, and were like for like bolt onto the hubs.

I bought my Rado, mainly as a blind buy but it was the spec i was interested in. Having got it delivered to mine with all intentions of raping it for my MK1 Golf GTI conversion. I could'nt do it, its such a nice car and ive gone all soft and stuck my pride and joy BBS RM's with 2" dish, onto it. It just needs slamming now, but still looks awsome as is. Its such a shame these get broken up. Trouble is now its distracted me from my mk1, and i never thought that would ever happen.

No thats the wrong one for me. The ones i need are actually on the front of the rack and are a bit bigger than brake lines.Thanks anyway dude.

Yeh, brackets are needed to lift them away from the bigger discs, tbh i think spacers are needed regardless. Mainly because of how wide the calipers are. Have you got yours reasonable ride height or slammed, and how wide are your rims. Im looking at slamming and ive got 8.5J BBS RM's, but i dont want the issues i had with my Golf.

I need the short metal pipe thats on the rack itself, but if you have got the long one as well i will have both.Oh its the power steering fluid pipes.

Thanks for the offers guys, but ive since sussed that its the short metal pipe i need, luckily not the entire rack. So really just needing the two metal pipes now.

Anyone used Porsche calipers up front. I have done this conversion on my previous mk2 Golf 20VT. Its a great upgrade and looks trick, however i had to use 25mm spacers to clear the calipers for my BBS RM's and it made lowering it tricky. I think the offset on my RM's was quite shallow though so this did'nt help. I quite fancy doing it on my Rado as the wings/arches seem to give more clearance than my mk2 golf did.

Drivers side is in need of a new seal and the piston needs cleaning. Passenger one looks ok. I think i might either get some replacements, or do what i did on my mk2 GTI 20VT, and use Porsche Calipers again.

Ok even though its pi$$ing down i managed to see the problem. Looks like the metal pipes are leaking from the unions and the short one is leaking where it goes directly into the rack body. So looks like new metal pipes, could have been worse.

Haha, you know it. Eyeing up some coilys at the mo, should be able to get it looooow enough as ive got 165's super streched.
