  1. Mines a daily driver. I wish I could do less miles, cos I want to keep it forever, and maintain the relatively low mileage. (Its an L reg with 83k on the clock). I do just over a thousand a month: a mixture of motorway and town driving.

I thought about getting a MKII Golf Gti for daily use, and keep the C for high days, holidays and weekends etc, but I dont think I would be able to drive any other car daily, knowing that I got a Corrado sitting at home!

The other reason I wish I did less mileage cos it drinks a fair bit of juice sitting at traffic lights and pottering round town!

Still, any downsides are by far outweighed by the kick you just from everyday driving.

  2. About this needle thing....

My dad used to have a granada (everybody laughs) (including Del), and it had orange needles that were made of a see thru type plastic, and they were lit from the middle at the back of the dials and it carried the light all the way thru the needle and was very effective. Whether this helps us or not, i dont dont know, its just my 2ps worth.

Im sure Andi you are aware of this type of needle lighting "technology" already, i guess its just whether or not it would work on our Corrados.

  3. Im still in for a set. (had to read the threads from the start again to remember whats going on)

Looks like what i want is what we all want:

Black by day, Black by night, (Sublte mods defo the way to go)

    MPH / 160mph

Smaller KMH ring inside the larger MPH outer ring

    Corrado logo

rev counter in single figures x 1000

without the big bright inner ring (defo too harsh on the eyes)

Only main thing is the needles being shown.

I had NO LIGHTS in the instrument pod for a while (not realising it was only the fuse that does the number plate lights at the back) and its really bad at night not knowing what speed youre doing. I had to keep pressing a button on my Nokia phone and holding it to the speedo so see what speed im doing. (felt like a right saddo doing that)

Is it still just the needles that we are stuck on?

  4. How straight forward was it to fit Big mac? Do you have to do much taking apart of switches and bits on the dashboard etc? (i hate the idea of trying bust something that was working perfectly, whilst trying to do make life easier> sods law and all that)

  5. Apparently, you can get them from Maplin, but they look like self assembly kits, and im not any good at making electircal cicuit boards, and soldering resistors and diodes etc. However, i've also heard that you can get them from car accessory shops. Gonna look into it myself in January, and will keep you posted Jedi.

  6. Was side by side at the lights next to a Toureg (not sure how its spelt). Both of us floored it at the lights. Full throttle, red lining and quick gear changes all the way....

1st gear... he was about a meter ahead...

2nd gear, i got the nose ahead...

3rd gear got further ahead of him

Then a car was in my lane so had to back off and let him pass. I was impressed with how fast something that big can go. But im sure would have stuffed him properly given the chance. (didnt want to continue much after 3rd regardless of the other car, cos speeds would have got way too much for the public roads)

  7. Cheers Leavon... I had a gut feeling it wouldnt have been, and wouldnt do it again. (Although that was why i was real gentle with letting the clutch out slowly, and the car did not judder at all). I think next time, best to let it come to a total holt, switch it off, and turn the key in the normal way. Thanx for the advice, well appreciated.

  8. It happened to mine again today. Was turning right, and the steering went rock hard. Looked down into the instrument cluster, and all the red lights were on! Its so annoying when it cuts out like that. Thankfully, with this thread in mind, it wasnt so much of a panic - as it had been the first time it happened. As the car was still rolling, i put it into 2nd, and gently took my foot off the clutch, and it started straight away, and was fine thereafter. Gonna have to get to the bottom of this tho.

  9. One other thing to important remember when considering having a go at Subaru Imprezas....

The Leicestershire Constabulary  (and may be other forces round the UK) have got 3 (may be 5 now), unmarked Metallic Blue, and Green beefed up Scoobies, and they use them for the exact reason of nicking people (particularly Cossies & M3's) driving fast, and trying to race etc. Please be careful.

Look out for camera type contraptions fitted to the inside of the front and rear windscreens.

  10. The handbrake cover can only go on by taking the handbrake handle off. On mine, i did this by pulling it forwards, and it slipped of eventually. Try not to damage the leather cover while pulling it forward. Then your new wedge shaped cover should slide straight back on. Let me know if u get stuck again.

  11. Wonder if its worth finding out if DB cartrim can do a special discounted price, if say a group of us Corrado owners got them done. I know i would like mine redoing in Leather. That said, wanna get it lowered first, then the exhaust, and after that the leather, which might not be til early '04! ah well, nice thought.
