JuanTravolta started following H4 HID's, Rear strut broken?, Front right wheel knocking noises and and 5 others
-
If I wasn't able to get a hold of the circlip, would I be able to just purchase this and replace the entire strut assembly? http://www.andysautosport.com/volkswagen/1990_1994_corrado/suspension/struts_and_shocks/kyb/kybb92343191.html Also, I think the previous owner put the car on lowering springs, but I'm not entirely sure. Here is a picture of the rear left spring.. Also, here is a picture of how low the car sits...

Is this something that I should be able to pick up at a local auto parts store, or would I have to take it from a junk yard? Thank you for responding, I truly appreciate it!

I was driving down the street about five minutes ago, when I started hearing this rattling noise coming from the back right of my Corrado. The noise was coming from inside the car, and when I looked back I noticed the rear speaker rattling up and down. I pulled over and after 4 or 5 minutes I realized that something wasn't right with my rear strut. These are some pictures I took of it... Since I know nothing about struts, I'm asking you guys if this look like my strut is broken? Will I simply need to get a new one and replace it, or will there be other parts I will have to purchase? Thanks in advanced.

This is exactly what I was talking about, if anyone else comes across this thread and wants to install HID's into their fog lights. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4383617-DIY-HID-Fog-Lights

I am noticing this problem with my corrado, coming from my front right wheel area (from what I can tell). I started noticing the sound when I backed out of my driveway with the steering wheel turned all the way to the left. At the end of my driveway there is a small dip, and as soon as I went over this dip the noise became apparent. At first it would only make the noise while I was backing up with the steering wheel turned to the left. The noise sounded like a knocking sound, and it was speed sensitive. If I was going really slow, it would take longer for the noise to occur. A few hours later I got back into my car and the noise wouldn't occur at all, that is, until the next day. The noise has transformed from a knocking sound into a mixture between a knock and a sound of something winding down and rubbing on something else. I'll notice the sound now while I coming to a stop, and it will usually happen under 20 mph. From what I can tell, it doesn't make the noise while I'm accelerating. This noise doesn't occur all the time, I'd say I'll hear it maybe 15% of the time I come to a stop. I had a good friend look at the car (he is a VW fanatic, but usually only deals with bugs), he jacked the front end of my car up, then had me start the car, put it into first and let the clutch out until the wheels started spinning. The front right tire was spining fairly quickly, but the left tire was nudging along in slow jerks, about an inch at a time. Since he doesn't usually work on Corrados, he told me he wasn't sure if this was supposed to be happening and I might have a differential problem, and to go on here and ask you guys since you're the corrado experts. Is this something that should be happening? Or does it sound like I have a differential problem? And also would this possibly be linked to the noise I'm hearing coming from the car? I noticed Hoppum has a post about a similar problem. If anyone has any ideas, of what it could possibly be, I would love to hear it. Thanks guys.

Theoretically though, if I were to buy an H3 HID kit, would I be able to use those bulbs for the fog lights?
-
But the thing is, I would like to keep the appearance that all of my lenses are white. Buying yellow lenses would mean that my headlights and turn signals would be white, but my fog lights would be yellow, correct?
-
I'm thinking about buying an HID kid to use for my fog lights. First off, is this even possible to do? Is there enough room for the ballasts, and would I have any other sorts of problems installing them? The main reason I'm wanting to do this is because I want my fog lights to be yellow. I'm always up for suggestions, so if there would be a better way to do this, let me know. I've had HID lights in the past and I'm very pleased with their performance, so I figured 3000k (yellow) HIDs would work a little better than simply tinting the fog light assembly, or using yellow halogen bulbs. Any advice is appreciated!
-
So if I wanted to get an HID kit, what kind of head lamps would I need to buy in order to get the bulbs focused correctly?

I bought my 92 VR6 about 3 weeks ago, and just got around to looking at all of the extra parts that the previous owner had given me when I purchased the car from him. I came across some pulleys in a box he had given me and I was hoping you guys could help me out and explain to me a little bit about them, and if it would be worth it for me to install them on my Corrado (would I see any gains performance wise, would it be something I would be able to install myself, etc..). I'm pretty sure the OEM pulleys are installed in my Corrado right now. Here are some pictures of them... They all say "UNORTHODOX RACING" on them and have the various listings engraved into them: "P/N 0214102 REV A A H 05" "P/N 0114402 REV N/A A H 05" "P/N 0114302 REV N/A A H 05" Any help is appreciated, thank you guys. Edit: I found this website if any of the details would help. http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/Itemdetail.aspx?PartID=041400202

Replacement speakers Front doors & Rear
JuanTravolta replied to Crispy Squirrel's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Yeah, I just replaced by rear 4x6's with 4 inch kickers using a bracket I bought from sonicelectronix. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4973_Scosche-SAJ46.html?from=857-141-166 In my opinion the 4 inch kickers sound way better than any 4x6's (but I also have a sub in the trunk, so I'm not looking for bass from my speakers). I also replaced the dash speakers and can confirm that they are 3.5'' speakers. -
If you need to figure out which wires are connected to which speakers you can take a AA battery and connect the ends of the speaker wire to opposite sides of the battery (in my experience, it doesn't matter which end touches the + and which end touches the - side of the battery) and this should send a little bit of power to the speaker, creating a buzzing sound, and allowing you to properly identify which set of wire goes to which speaker. When I first bought my Corrado, it had aftermarket speaker wire so I wasn't sure which wire went to which speaker, and I used this method to figure it all out.

I just looked on the inside of my fuel cover, and it says to use a minimum of 87 octane. So I'm guessing you're right davidwort, the fuel values probably aren't equivalent.
-
Yeah, generally this is what our fuel pumps look like That's why I was amazed when I heard you guys saying you only put 95+ in your Corrados.
-
I also just bought my first Corrado (92 VR6), so bear with me here. I was wondering what type of gas I would use in mine (USA)? We typically have 87 octane (regular), 89 octane (plus), and 91 octane (premium) at gas stations.
