cheers but this one doesn't really help. Its the up/down movement that's getting stuck

Firstly, apologies if this is a re-post as I seem to remember somebody asking this before but I can't find it now. I've got 16v, which has been standing for a while, and the gearstick is stuck in the 'down' reverse position so I can't select first or second. I've been told its a simple fix involving a plastic clip but after taking the casing apart this morning I can't seem to find anything plastic at all. any help would be appreciated!
