    nasty knocking

i had this for a while, and turned out to be the wishbone bolt loose :shocked!: and also sounds very similar to when my front bearing went, easy to check, jack up the front, put your hand on the suspension strut and spin the wheel, see if it feels rough or lumpy through your hand, should be smooth and quiet! Andy
  2. Am currently doing this as well, what do u use to polish them? i have found flap wheels best on a dremel type tool with flexi shaft?
  3. LOL @ oil and water warning light on, so "thought i could drive really slowly the 40 odd miles home" ahhhh women and cars . . . >
  4. I bet it has diffrent engine mountings tho
  5. You will NEVER sell danial sun . . . . . . STOP KIDDING YOURSELF :)
  6. Seems bit ropey with only 49k on the clock?!?
  7. id say wheel bearing . . . Easy to check tho, jack her up n give it a wiggle, small bit of play ok, lot of play, baaad!! Easy enough to fix, do it in a couple of hours most by yourself, but caliper carrier allen nuts are a biach most of the time . . Andy
  8. Just found this, cant work out if its new or not tho, no dates ect, looks very similar to something i have in the drive tho! (all be it broken) http://www.eurotuned.com/vw/new_corrado.htm

    early mornings

mine does the same, and there has been this problem brought up before, and we all seemed to have one thing in common, the cars had been standing for between 6-12 months+ I think its down to the injectors, cos i pulled one once and just switched the ignition on, and it squirted for a split second, there not cheap tho!!!
  11. along the same lines, mine shows between 9-13 max MPG all the time, what would cause this??!
  12. i will get the camera out tomorrow if i get time, theres a reciept for about 4 years ago saying webber carb fitted, is that a replacement one u think? or reading it it might just be a manual choke conversion kit, mechanics crap hand writing makes it near impossible to read!!! but can definatly make out "webber manual choke conversion kit remove old carb strip off ancillaries 'something' new kit" might then be 'bin choke unit' and the rest is jibberish!!
  13. :fist:  Nar its ok, im getting hacked off with her, so off the road for a couple of months, calm down, save up some cash, and put it back on, mechanicly sound, and hopefully dent n rust free with more horses :) oh, and STEEL spinners on order . . .if they fall through, they have some well tasty ones in halfords, but there plastic, with crome plating, a close second i think Cheers tho geezer! As for the pipe, theres definatly something missing under there, i dunno what tho! have to have day out to the scrappies and compare what it SHOLD look like and go on the rob!
  14. ok, seems i need educating, whats it mean!! there a switch i can flip so i get another 40MPG?!? LOL
  15. Ah, i had just taped a bit of rag over the end of it for a temp 'air cleaner' till i got to the scrappies LOL will go and remove it now!!!! Its F reg, 1.8 8v 130,000 nearly exactly on the clock . . Heres crap pic that was on autotrader . . YOUTH!!!!! im nearly quarter of a centery old :( Sorry **EDIT** On the log book its a GOLF GL 4+E 1.8 4+E?!?!?!?! And it cost us 350 squid, fair u think?!?
  16. After the corrado mis-behaving over the weekend (ANOTHER head gasket) it was decided its comming of the road for a few months to get everything sorted out once and for all . . soooo had to get a car to tie me over for a few months, so i have just brought a golf, seems good buy, 2 tiny bits of rust, but fairly immaculate apart from that!! But . . . the clutch is as stiff as fook, how could i ease it? And its a carb (1.8) with manual choke, thought that was bit weird?!? and runs lumpy on tickover, and you have to floor it to get it to start, but runs as quiet and as smooth as a dream when its going? Also it doesnt seem to have an airbox, where is it on these, is it in the black box above the carb, cos theres a pipe comming off there, that goes no where!!!! didnt notice till i got it home! Cheers ANDY
  17. i Supplied the parts, and my mechanic charged me 60 quid, so thats about 2hrs work :) Andy
  18. mmm, what i suspected, it started overheating, so i checked the oil, and there was the first few drops of the dreaded . . :(
  19. Right, i did the head gasket 6-7 months ago, and yup, its gone AGAIN  its blown between a waterway and oil way i think, cos only the water sems to be contaminated with angel delight :) I refuse to do it again, and think if i can get hold of a fairly low milage 2.0 complete engine, im gunna just dump that in! so have few questions, 1. how much would be a fair price be for a 2.0 complete engine, just bottom and top end? 2, roughly how many hours is it going to take my mechanic to do the swap, so i can get rough cost! 3, why the hell has it blown AGAIN!!!! 4, what else should i bung in while its in a million bits again? (clutch was done 5-6000 miles ago) 5, is this related to it getting hot below 40ish MPH the past couple of days? 6, how long do i have before it dies completly, cos i have to get to work for a week at least!!!! CHEERS ANDY
  20. Ok, end of topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Bro found this. . . Chinese Alter Cars After Crash Test 23 Oct 05, THE SUNDAY TIMES (Summary) CHINA / EUROPE --- The first Chinese cars to be imported into Europe will be modified after failing crash tests. The JiangLing Landwind 4x4 will be fitted with a reinforced frame, redesigned steering column and modified fuel lines. The Sunday Times last month revealed how the Landwind had “catastrophically failed” tests carried out by the ADAC, the German equivalent of the AA. That story went around the world, threatening to hit Landwind’s plans to sell 1,000 models across Europe by July 2006. Now the Dutch-based distributor of the car is fighting back, claiming that the car performed well in a separate test conducted by German certifying laboratory TUV — albeit only after a number of engineering improvements were made. In an ADAC video the Landwind’s steering wheel was shown striking a test dummy’s head during a head-on collision at 40mph. Peter Bijvelds, head of distributor Landwind Motor Corp, claims the ADAC misled the public by implying its tests met legal standards. “We will take legal action if they do not withdraw this conclusion,” he said
