    CV boot split

I thought it was a lot too, £75/hr is a joke, but it's only money eh and I'm lazy  £40 sounds a lot more reasonable though!

    CV boot split

Hmmm doesn't sound too easy, just found a local garage that will do it for £40 so sod VW, will have a think about it, cheers for the advice though, appreciate it! :)

I have a torque wrench and a socket set.....but that's about it, so the driveshaft has to come off to replace the boot? The £112 is sounding more tempting...hmmmm :?

    CV boot split

I've got the same problem, split O/S CV boot, garage sayits not bad enough to fail MOT but it needs doing. I've bought a new boot kit from GSF for £6.25, but VW want 1.5hrs@£75 to fit it! This sounds like a lot, but is it worth the hassle of me trying to do this myself? I managed to change the driveshafts on an AX but that was a while ago, and the VR looks a whole lot more difficult! I could go to another garage that charges less per hour? They were trying to tell me that without specialist tools its very difficult and i should just pay the £112.50 and be done with it as it wuld take another garage longer hence cost the same.....but they would say that  What should i do guys? Any advice appreciated :?
  5. Ok...so is that where the noise would be coming from? How much to get it fixed? Should I avoid driving it? I've read the "how to change you're tensioners" guide and it looks like a mission and a half!
  6. Oh you can see one of the puffs i'm talking about in that vid @ 35seconds :(
  7. I've noticed my VR6 tapping/rattling (difficult to describe) recently, it's worse when cold but easily noticable at all times. It comes from the left hand side of the engine as you look at it (drivers side), from near or in the head. Sounds quite bad when its cold, almost like a diseasel :( Is this where the tensioner noise comes from? Mine has done 123k miles! Still goes great though, and i know it's not running under power (well not much if it is) as i got what i was hoping for at the pod.... :? Another thing i've noticed is that it burns a bit of oil, and when i change gear at high rpm mates in cars behind have said theyve seen the odd little blue puff. Any idea's which seals have gone? Valve seals? How much?? Any advice much appreciated lads, cheers 8) p.s. for any that are interested theres a video of my VR6 in action here: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~alexm/random/VR6.wmv bring it on 306s hehe
  8. Just to add my 2p seeing as i've owned a gti6, and now have a VR6. They are very different cars, and in a straight line the VR6 is undoubtably faster, but I am convinced over a bumpy b-road that the gti6 would be quicker. Now this may be down to my driving, but the thing that makes the gti6 a great car imo is the feeling of confidence it inspires - you can get in it and drive fast, just like that. The corrado requires a lot more concentration (mine does anyway) to acheive the same kind of speed, which detracts from the fun a bit. Of course the C has other advantages over the 306, like the noise, which more than make up for it! :D I'd say i prefer the vr6, only just, but it's definatly down to individual taste when cars are this closely matched. :)

Trying to work out exactly what has been changed and what hasnt on my 122k '94 VR6. I've been looking at the shocks and they are red, still cleanish so im guessing not amazingly old, and I'm thinking that at the mileage my car has done the shocks are going to have been replaced at some point. I can't read anything on the front ones but the backs have SACHS stamped on them but thats about it.....are these the standard shocks? :?

Whats the best way to go about lowering? Are a new set of springs enough or should i be looking at replacing the shocks as well? Is 30mm the recomended amount? Cheers lads :)
  12. Just been out and bought some 10w40 sysnthetic oil, a genuine oil + fuel filter and some coolant.....only thing is, the coolant ive bought is just carplan anti-freeze and summer coolant. It says on the bottle that it conforms to BS6580 and is suitable for all alumininium cylinder head engines, but after reading on here everyone is going on about G12+ (whatever that is?), would it be a bad idea to use this? Should i take it back and get some of this G12+ stuff from VW? :?

Just noticed they're not working on mine! Were for a while, and now theyve both gone, so i suspect its the switch....where about is it? Such a bummer not being able to get a heynes manual for the C :(

Thanks mate :) Are these things i can check myself (I'd give myself a 3.5 out of 5 heynes rating, lol) or do i need to pay a garage? I'm always nervous about trusting mechanics! As for the 13th of march that sounds excellent! Where about is stealh?? Cheers, Alex :)

Cheers lads, I'm from just out of town over in Eynsham and i work on the Banbury Road. Seen a couple of C's about, really nice greeny one on the Botley Road the other day, and the white on you're on about, parked on the left coming from Cowley just before the green road roundabout?....Your's is looking good, like the de-badged grill! Will keep an eye out for ya round cowley and give u a flash if i see you :) Where did you get that bit that goes above the headlights? Add a certain mean-ness to the front end  Hope my chain tensioners are alright! Engine sounds good, what should i listen for? Any oxford area meet ups? 8)

Hi all, just chopped my 306gti6 for a 94 VR6 in ice grey violet (lovely colour! looks expensive to match though). So far i've been very pleased with the car, especially the noise! :D It's standard as far as i can tell, bar a scorpion backbox and drilled front discs. Just wondering if there's anything in particular bar the usual things that i should check before i start driving it properly? its a high miler (120k!), although it has fvwsh. Also any 'must-do' mods that come highly recomended? I notice the headlights are a bit poor on dipped but have already read the thread on that one  also its got the (standard) 205/50/R15 speedline 5 spoke rims on it which look too small for the car....are 16s the way forwards as a compromise between looks/handling? What offset should i be looking for? Sorry for all the questions! I've tried to have a look around before asking too many  Quick question about the handling also.....i've been told by several mates that as the corrado has a beam axle at the rear rather than independant trailing rear arms like the pug that the back can be more 'snatchy' and prone to breaking away suddenly under heavy cornering rather than progressivly? Is this true? i have to say i havent pushed it as hard as the 6 yet because im not really used to it but it feels pretty planted. Also i have BF Goodrich Profiler G tyres on it (not my choice!) which im not sure about....although hopefully when i go to elvington on the 6th of march i will a) answer some of these questions for myself and b) remove all the tread from my tyres so i have an excuse to buy a nice new set of F1s for it hehe :) Only gripe, I miss 6th gear! Cheers, happy motoring 8)
  20. Ahhh glad someone else has BF Goodrich profiler G's, i was beggining to think I was the only one in the country with them! Ive only had the car 2 weeks and its been wet the whole time so i haven't had a proper chance to test them, seem pretty good though. I had Yoko A539s on my previous car which were a bit twitchy in the wet but otherwise superb, its hard to compare cross car/size though. :?
