Problem solved! Disconnected the cold start valve this morning before leaving for work, fuel smell is all but gone and the car is happy to start and drive as normal!
-
Still no further forward with this, where is the cold start injector exactly? I'm gonna try disconnecting it for a while to see if it helps. There are definetly no leaks anywhere and the fuel filter has been recently replaced so no problems with that.

Can't find any pics of it done but I did it to my last one. You take the glass off the headlight and paint the very edges of the reflective part. You can just about see it in my avatar pic. I'll be doing it at the weekend so I'll take pics as I go but I'm sure someone else will have done already.
-
Yeah, probably will as soon as I can get a hold of some tint spray. I'm also going to split the headlights and paint around the edges of the reflectors to get the twin headlight look.
-
Red tint spray. You'll get it on ebay or in some motor factors. Don't spray it on too thick though or you'll have red flashing indicators!

Ha! :D I'm going to order some springs some time in the next week or so, one of the fronts has cracked on the bottom coil. Going for a 60mm drop I think. Its already on Bilstein struts so no need to change them as they appear to be in good nick and they're only about 2 yrs old, going by the bills that came in the history folder. Also might be swapping the wheels for these... Going for a look at the weekend.

Sorted, got the black one on and drove it home, seems fine. Getting the correct white one from VW on wednesday. Thanks for all your help/info.

Ok so I can't get a switch for a couple of days then won't be able to fit it till the weekend if I leave the car where it is. can I fit the spare black (1.4 bar) switch I've got to get the car home? It would be replacing a white one (1.8 bar) and only be for about 15 miles.
-
Car is about 15 miles away so not that easy! Just need to take a pile of spanners with me.
-
Its the white one I need to replace so not a problem and I've got a black one to fit so they'll both be off anyway.
-
Cheers again Toad!

So even though I need a white one, could I get away with a black one for a day or two if I can't get one? The car is 15 miles away from home so it would be handy to be able to get it home at least. Also, could someone do me a huge favour and possibly try a few spanners on the switch on thier car please? Just so I definetly have the right tools when I go to change it. Cheers.
-
Yep, looked them up on ECP's site. I managed to get hold of a black one but its the white one I need so need to wait till monday to get it from the VW dealer. was closed by the time I realised it was leaking! Hopefully they'll have them in stock!
-
Ok mate. thanks for the info.
-
Yeah I won't be driving it till its fixed. So which one do I need? hi or low? Its the rear one.
-
Yep, the lo/hi switches are what I meant. Thanks for confirming what they are for me! I know they're easy enough to replace but Just trying to work out if its just going to be a faulty switch or if something else would cause the problem.
-
Well at least I think its that one. Of the 2 sensors on top of the oil filter housing, there is oil pouring out of the one nearest the back as you look at it from the front of the car. is this just a fault with the switch and it just needs replaced or am I in for some expensive problems??? Car is kinda stranded far from home so a quick reply would be much appreciated. Cheers! :(

Six hours of cleaning and polishing later... Still not happy with it but its way cleaner than it was.
-
Thanks for the prompt replies. I was on my lunch from work so had I had more time I would have searched properly for info but as its fuel related, I thought I'd just ask! Yes its a 2.0 16v, sorry for the lack of info supplied! The smell is coming from the boot so I'll check the fuel lines, pump and top of the tank etc tomorrow.
-
As the title says really, the car is hard to start when its cold or been sitting for a few hours. It always starts after about 10 seconds of turning and runs lumpy for 30 seconds. Its almost like its flooding. I've also got a strong smell of unburned fuel inside the car which goes away when driving but I've so far found no leaks anywhere. Are the 2 things likely to be related and any clues to the fault? Cheers.

Few new pics of the car...
-
Yep thats on the things to do list!
-
Just thought I'd add a couple of pics of my new one, Needs a serious amount of cleaning and the wheels will be getting a refurb too at some point. But for now... car still hasn't been cleaned and the pics are crap but you get the idea...
