speedo resetting

Recommended Posts

Just been a bit too clever and removed the needles from the tacho and speedo to change to white dials without finding the resting position. Now that I'm reassembling it I'm not sure about how far below the needle rest the "zero" position is. I'm guessing that the speedo will probably be pretty close to where 0mph would be, but are all speedos/tachos the same? If so can anyone tell me the resting postion for both clocks?

BTW, used Andi's white dials (cheers Andi) and they look, well, leagues better than the old black faces and crap number fonts. Blue filters going in soon, as well as the MFA - just need to find a bit of time

speedo needle actually rests BELOW the end stop... on the 3 that I've done, (2x G60 and 1x VR6) the needle tends to point at the part of the dial edge where the flat bit meets the curved bit when at rest... you then can carefully flick the end of the needle over the end stop so it rests against it properly... 8)

Rev counter varies quite a bit in my experience.... I cheated when I did mine and wired the lot back up without the counter's needle or the cover on, started the car in the hidden MFA mode and then put the needle on with the revs at exactly 1000 rpm on the MFA! ;) 8)

The temp and fuel gauge needles will only go on in one position... 8)

Does the VR also allow you to check the engine speed thro' the MFA? - I know you can on a G60? If so, how? Thanks for the help.

when i cocked mine up I used 2 methods

1 - the spoiler should come up at 56mph

2 - used the average speed at about 90 in the MFA. so got to constant speed and reset the avg speed. bang on now :)

for a rough guide i guess it was about 8-10mm BELOW the little stop pin.
