kevvv 0 Posted October 11, 2004 Hi, my first post! :) Found you guys from discovering a Maplin receipt under my wiper!! Dinkus sent me! Anyway, I've just noticed on my K reg 16V that it's starting to feel a little odd when doing a left-to-right and right-to-left gear change ie 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. By odd, I mean it's like it goes kinda loose and without it's usual positive "I'm in there!" type feel. Not too sure about reverse as I didn't want make it go completely before going to get it fixed! I reckon it's the linkage, well hope would be more like it - rather than the gearbox itself. Any opinions? Also, recommendations for reliable servicing near Cambridge - yep, checked the other sticky in the other forum already :)
kevvv 0 Posted October 11, 2004 aaah, no sticky about this but plently of similar posts! doh! looks like it might be the linkage after all - I've had the car for over 3 years and it' always been bit hit & miss between 1st & reverse! hopefully, linkage gets sorted and I get a vastly improved drive! dinkus 10 Posted October 11, 2004 Ah ok I see you've managed to find out about linkages already :) Ignore my PM then ;) jedi-knight83 is worth asking about garages in/around Cambridge. Good luck!
jedi-knight83 0 Posted October 11, 2004 kevvv, welcome... not sure about linkages to be honest...although my gear change feels notchy from 1st to 2nd. you could try cowley rd garage...there all ex vw mechanics and are very good (although i havent actually used them to carry out any work myself) where in cambs do you normally drive? give us a wave (was gonna say flash but thats just wrong)
Louie Lungbubble 0 Posted October 11, 2004 Hello kevvv, Same thing happened to mine last week. Gear change went from positive *Clunk* to a sort of spongey *Plop* and within a day the linkage went *P'twing* leaving me stranded in neutral. 65 quid for a newie from the highwaymen at VW, and my local specialist reckons 60 quid for fitting labour Get it sorted before you have to mate, sounds like it's going the same way mine did. :? Henny 0 Posted October 12, 2004 Welcome to The Forum kevvv, Pull up the surround on the gear lever (the bit with "Karmann" written on it, and have a look at the left hand side of the linkage as you move it side to side in Neutral... there's a pivot bar in the middle which the lever moves on to go forwards and backwards into gear, and I'd bet that the clip on the left end of that bar has broken off meaning that your side to side movement of the lever now has the added movement of being able to slide off the end of the shaft too.... :| Good news if it is this, as the clip is only 20p from VW! 8)
