G-Lader 0 Posted November 8, 2004 Not had much experience with Vr6's - the cars got 46k and is a Auto Highline model. Any ideas what I should be looking for when I check it over people? Appreciate some tips ! :)
Storm 0 Posted November 8, 2004 Be totally sure about the box and electrics. Diabolically expensive if it goes wrong, this starts at about 80k + miles. So long as it hasnt been shunted and the miles are genuine it should be fine.
G-Lader 0 Posted November 8, 2004 Ive heard there are only about 4 specialist auto companies in the UK.....Renault ones.......VW have no idea when it comes to dismantling the auto box...... Im listening out for whines/crunches etc and making sure it kicks down rapidly.......anything else ? Any engine leaks acceptable or if I see oil leeks walk away? Thanks for the quick reply......what do u mean 'electrics' general stuff like windows etc
G-Lader 0 Posted November 8, 2004 Does the g/box have a dipstick in the engine area or are they sealed units?
Reggit 0 Posted November 8, 2004 My mate has a '94 VR6 auto Golf, the box is a bit sluggish in kick-down, but has been like that for many 1000's of miles and otherwise works fine. More importantly though it just failed its MOT for severe rust on the underfloor area on both sides of the car, I'm not sure on the exact location, but it's caused by the underseal splitting and the front wheels blasting water and mud between the floorpan and underseal. I know of atleast one other mark 3 (again 1994) that has suffered similar problems, so probably worth a double check/prod around this area. The car is in for repair at the minute, but if I can get a picture of the area to look for I'll post it up here (won't be for a week or so, so don't hold your breath)
