joby 0 Posted January 1, 2003 Happy new year to you all, Hope everyones not suffering to much. Finally got the corrado running again after about 6 litres of antifreeze, new thermostat, and lots of checking, it would not stop boiling over, My independent specialist told me it was definetly the head gasket (Big money) i nearly booked it in but thought i would try a expansion bottle cap. Bingo, sometimes it pays to start at the bottom, replacing a thermostat on one of these on boxing day is not to be recomended,Anyway now i can enjoy the corrado again! But the heater only seems to work when it wants to? any ideas i thought of those silly return valves, which one causes the problem? also any ideas on antifreeze ive used duckams blue, but the book says G10. The vortex site says anything else will ruin the system ? Any ideas... :?

vr6storm 0 Posted January 1, 2003 the new vw antifreeze will mix with other antifreeze now,as someone pointed out on the e groups yeah though i would still test some out first to be on the safe side its should also be labelled as g-11+..........as some dealers might still have old stocks of normal g-11 which will turn to jelly if mixed with others

vr6storm 0 Posted January 3, 2003 this might be a long-shot and i'm not sure if its the correct way to do it,but when you drained the water out did you have your heat control setting on hot?and also when you refilled it,did you keep the heat setting on hot as well? hth
joby 0 Posted January 3, 2003 You name it ive tried it, you think if it was the head gasket it would be like it all the time wouldnt you..
vr6storm 0 Posted January 4, 2003 longshot part deux:-do u know if your Corrado has had the heater matrix recall fix???if it hasn't then vw have to fix regardless of whether it still has or hasn't vwsh........check out message/post no 40219 on the yahoo e-group.....i'm right in assuming that its a 1.8 16v that you have????as its only pre-92 models that are covered.....if it has had the recall fix done then vw's records will show that they have done it,there is a small possibility that your one was missed your local vw-dealer should be able to say if it was done or not also do a search on the yahoo e-group for "heater matrix" and you should find more info...though please bear in mind it can take a while as it searches through roughly 900 messages every hit and just carry-on hitting the next button even though some will come up with "no messages"as that just means that there was no posts/messages with heater matrix in them over the 900 or so messages it searched worth a try and hth
joby 0 Posted January 4, 2003 Thanks for that Roddy i think its been done as i had one done on a GTI and i think its the silver valve that fits on the hose, but i will check with my main dealer
