chubbybrown 0 Posted December 11, 2004 can you get it off the ground ? at least leave the handbrake off and keep the petrol low as its a shame to run a car on gone off petrol
Scruffythefirst 0 Posted December 11, 2004 and keep the petrol low as its a shame to run a car on gone off petrol Fill the petrol tank to the top otherwise you'll get condensation which is worse than gone off petrol. Petrol has a shelf life of several months anyway and it wont drop the ron enough to cause problems (unless your running very high boost / lean) If you worried about that put super unleaded in it when you leave it. Ideally leave the battery on an optimate trickle charger (attached to the car)
G60JAY 0 Posted December 12, 2004 If you can, put it in a nice dry garage, disconnect the battery and leave a window open a little. Should be fine for just a few months.
steveo29 0 Posted December 12, 2004 be carefull of mice/rats etc if you leave the window open a bit id just go for clean ,dry and jacked up with the brake off....trickle charger if possible
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted December 13, 2004 The last time you drive the car before laying it up, don't use the heater because warm air holds more water vapour than cold. If you have air conditioning, get the interior as cold as you can on its last run. Try to get some large packets of silica gel, which is a good desiccant, for instance from an electronics wholesaler. Warm them very gently to get them as dry as possible. Put them in the car when you leave it with the windows shut, and you shouldn't have any problems with condensation inside the cabin. The seat belts and the seats themselves particularly can get very mouldy very quickly in a damp passenger compartment - a very light misting of a domestic anti bacteria cleaner on these items might help, but check that it is bleach-free. A squirt of WD40 around the engine electrics wouldn't come amiss either. Best wishes RB
Neil VR6 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Or get a friend who you can trust to warm it up and down to take it out every week or two?
