passenger door window

I think my window motor is dead, I checked it and it is getting power so my conclusion is that it is DEAD, but I cant get it out ,there is no bolts anywhere how can I get it out without cutting through the door?????? :scratch:

it's riveted in... you need to drill out the rivets to get it out, and then re-rivet it when you put it back in again.... Apparently a bit of a git of a job... :|

from what I remember when changing the whole regulator and motor, it's the regulator itself that is riveted to the door (in three places), the motor attaches to that with a couple of bolts I think. Might be difficult to get at but in theory you should be able to swap the motors over, I need to attempt this again as my passenger door motor keeps jamming, grazed my knuckles and scratched my arms pretty badly changing the regulator last time :cry:

I think work thought I'd been self harming :!:

 

I've got a spare(door with regulator/motor in it) at home to replace my knackered one so will take a look at it and report back 8)

Nope, the motor is riveted to the door aswell as the regulator. 3 for the motor (Special reinforced rivets) and 3 for the regulator (two in the middle and one at the top). Don't drill out the rivets on the far right near the door lock as that's the glass guide!

 

I wouldn't even think about seperating the motor from the regulator....not unless you want to be finding dropped rubber shock blocks and coiling cable round the pulley system again.....

 

Oh and the new regulator/motor assembly from VW is an eye watering £180+VAT.

 

Takes about 3 hours in all......

not sure about that, as the 3 rivets near the motor (in a 10cm-ish triangle shape) are fixing the regulator interface with the motor to the door and not the actual motor itself, I'm pretty sure the motor unit is bolted to the regulator unit with one bolt either side and it just has a rubber pad between it and the inner door skin. I will look at my spare door though, to double check as it's a year or so since I did the ones on my car.

Well, what I call the 'motor assembly' (motor and regulator cable coil) is definitely riveted to the door and even if you can replace the motor, you still need to drill the rivets out to get to it. The motor assembly has 3 rubber blocks on it with metal end caps. The rivets pass through the metal end caps and clamp the whole lot to the door.

 

I replaced the whole lot a fortnight ago so it's still fresh in my memory....
