Arrow3 VR6 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Hello. I was looking to buy a Corrado, probably either 1992 or 1993..unless of course there are good reasons to buy other years :) And I was wondering what peoples' opinions are on the '92 vs '93 VR6's. Which do you prefer and why? What are the major differences? I'm new at this, but I'm hooked on these Corrados, they're amazing cars! Thanks in advance for all your opinions! As a side note: I'm in the U.S.(Pennsylvania to be exact) so gear your comments accordingly, as I'm not sure of differences between US and Euro. versions. Thanks! Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2003 Well the US version has the marginally smaller 2.8 litre V6 against the European 2.9 V6, but that really is about the only difference. The VR6 was always considered a 'face lift' model - bumper, bonnet, and lights were all slightly different compared to the '91 Basically '92 or '93 should be pretty identical.. so just get the newest you can for you money :D
vr6storm 0 Posted June 16, 2003 well the main difference between the Cvr6(usa market) and the Cvr6 (europe) is the fact that the us market got the golf vr6 2.8L 174bhp engine (AAA code) i believe whereas europe got the 2.9L 190 bhp engine code ABV don't know much other than that regards the year differences over in the states
Arrow3 VR6 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Oh okay, well that's not a huge difference. I'm currently looking at a flash red '92 VR6 with only 55k miles!! I'm still not sure if I like the red color though :-/ I love all the nice blues and greens the euro's seem to come in. How much (in $ if possible hah) would a new paint job cost? So there are no body, or curve/shape differences between the '92s and '93s? Also, are there any external appearance differences on the SLCs? Thanks, or cheers as you all say ;)
Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2003 A good quality respray would probably set you back around $3500/$4000.. though knowing the USA, it'll probably cheaper as you guys get everythin cheaper ;) :) Flash Red is a pretty nice colour, and 55,000 miles on a 1992 model sounds excellent.. though check it over for general wear and tear as it could have had the digital odometer altered to make it more desirable to sell. Check for a well documented history, and other signs of wear (such as the seats, pedals, etc) to back that up. And I am pretty certain that the '92 models look identical to the '93... :)
Arrow3 VR6 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Alright thanks. Yeah, 3-4k sounds like a lot to me..so I'll sure to consider than when looking at colors. Aren't as many choices over here in the US :( A LOT of black C's. Yeah, the guy claims he is currently the second owner..and has ALL papers, even from the first owner. The condition, both external and internal, looks emaculate, but I still need to go see it in person. Any way you can further describe the flash red color...is it like a firetruck red? Or more calm? Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2003 I suspect Flash Red will be quite similar to Tornado Red.. there is a Corrado for sale on the UK eBay over here in that colour, the link to which is here - I personally like the colour... seen a few C's over here in that colour, and it looks spot on :) Oh, and if it has all the paperwork and two owners from new.. get there and check it out. Original Corrado's are getting really hard to find and it'd be a shame to pass up a potential minter :)
vr6storm 0 Posted June 16, 2003 jim mate flash red is an actual uk-spec colour too........i think most 92 onwards C's that are red are actually flash red
Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2003 Hm... how does flash compare to tornado Roddy? Do they look pretty similar?
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted June 16, 2003 Hm... how does flash compare to tornado Roddy? Do they look pretty similar? It's not quite as deep as Tornado and it doesn't go pink in the sunlight :D It's actually a nice colour, I'm just not that keen on it as a Corrado colour. The curves are better suited to the metallics and pearls we're all familiar with. Kev 94 VR6
Arrow3 VR6 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Yeah, I'm just debated on it b/c It might be a little to bright for me...I like the red on that car, but apparently it's different..? Also, what are the major differences between G60's and VR6's? Just the engines..? Both appear to perform well.

Jim 2 Posted June 16, 2003 Ah the G60 / VR6 debate... Essentially.. the Corrado is pretty much the same alround in its various incarnations, except the engines. And I am quoting USA stats here... G60 = 1.8 litre 8v with a supercharger... 150/160'ish BHP VR6 = 2.8 litre 12v (?) narrow angle V6... 180'ish BHP G60 is good if you want a car you can tune, tweak, and get good amounts of power from relatively small amounts of cash. But keep an eye on the supercharger.. have it stripped and rebuilt by a specialist every 40,000 miles to keep it in good condition. VR6 is good if you want a nice powerful cruiser which can be chucked around like the G60.. but its slightly heavier because of its bigger engine and is much harder to get good power gains from without spending a bit of cash. I'd personally be putting my money on the VR6. Thats not because I dislike the G60.. far from it, I like all C's equally for different reasons.. but if I really had to pick it would be the VR :)
