MikeVR6 0 Posted February 17, 2005 Right. Numpty Time :oops: :oops: Finally got round to attempting to wire up my Centre Console Gauges today. Removed ashtray and cigarette lighter. Used a tester to find the switched live on the lighter and ashtray multiplugs which works off the headlight switch. All working fine, tester lit up when I turned the headlight switch on. Wired the Ground from the ashtray connector to the "Druck" connection on the back of the gauge pod. Then tried the live connection on the other pins. I had thought "Druck" meant earth, later found out it was Pressure! Doh. As a result, none of my dash illuminaton is working. Gauges, Heater controls, ashtray, lighter all in darkness. MFA and clock work, just don't light up. Warning lights for handbrake, ABS etc all work. Interior and boot light work fine and the electric window, mirror and headlight switches still illuminate. I've checked Fuse 21, which is for Interior Illumination, it's ok. It's not the bulbs either as I tried a spare in the heater controls and ashtray. MikeVR6 0 Posted February 17, 2005 No tried the dimmer. Not a loose connection either. It's definately something blown or fried in there. Other than the fuse and the dimmer. What controls the interior lights. Is there a relay in the fuse box for them? Henny 0 Posted February 18, 2005 MikeVR6, they're the only 2 things which control the interior dash lights... the fuse and the dimmer switch.... My first port of call would be to pull the lightswitch out and have a look at the resistive coil and it's sweeper contacts to make sure you've not fried anything there... :| Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
MikeVR6 0 Posted February 18, 2005 Ok, Davebirl has just spoken to me on the phone. He asked me if the rear number plate lights were also dead. Sure enough, they were! (hadn't noticed) The same fuse covers the dash and number plate lights (crazy Germans) So all I've to do is track it down in the morning and replace it. That's excactly what happned to me after i spent hours wiring in my pods. Thought I'd completely fooked the car and would have to get an auto electrician out.. and I'd have to explain all my wiring to him and hang my head in shame.
