Your idle will likely jump about a bit or it wont idle at all, thats the plug for the isv.

well its been unplugged for a long time, since my last and only visit to my local vw service dept. they obviously forgot to plug it back in, the idle has seemed a little bit jumpy, but seemed worse when i plugged it back in?

The engine will try and adapt to not having an ISV connected, not always successfully though! I've run the engine with it disconnected aswell and it idled higher (about 900rpm) and seemed to affect the acceleration aswell...felt flat.

 

It never cut out at junctions though, maybe that's the trick? Just unplug the darn thing!

Might be a good idea.....part of the teaching process is to let the car idle for a few minutes....which it can't do properly with no ISV!

bad idea on G60's the idle stabilizer controls boost as well unplugging makes car overboost, and blow things, i.e. headgasket.
