Arrow3 VR6 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Any opinions on purchasing C's, or even just cars in general, from eBay? I'm definitely considering it, as I've received sufficient information, pictures, and a VIN. All my questions have been answered well, and it seems like a good car. Anything to watch out for? Any past experiences? Any other advice? Thanks in advance. Cheers! Supercharged 2 Posted June 22, 2003 I think i'd have to see the car first in real life as there are so many things that can go wrong with these, especially because of the age of them now... Then again if its that cheap id be tempted to bid becuase even if it turns out to be a lemon - most cars are worth more broken up for parts now... sc16v 0 Posted June 22, 2003 Be careful, treat it like you would from buying anywhere else, like supercharged said you have to see it and drive it, and the idea of ebay being an auction site means it must really be cheaper than buying from other sources. (eg ive seen way to high reserve bids on there) :)
stormy 0 Posted June 23, 2003 Bought mine from ebay just a few weeks ago!! at the end of the day never part with any cash untill you have seen the car, MOT, log book and a hpi check is worth the money!!!! :) I was very happy with mine the seller was very honest told me all about the car on e-mail and i was not dissapointed when i travelled 100miles to see it!! At the end of the day you DONT have to buy it!! so what, he may leave a negative feedback for you better that than be out of pocket after buying a dog of a car!!!! :D :D
Scott 0 Posted June 23, 2003 Yup and bought mine from ebay too.... I got it from a trader who only gets rid of his part exchanges through ebay as its quick and easy for him.... He is a japanese car specialist and need the VR6 off the forecourt ASAP - I dont regret one bit of it *:) - I also got a bargain.
wateryGrave 0 Posted June 23, 2003 I bought my golf mk2 on ebay, it's a great car so i was happy with the deal. However, i don't think i would do it again without seeing the car first. As it's been said before, you don't have to buy it - who cares about neg feedback! The advert for my golf said it was in excellent condition, if it hadn't have been i would have pulled out & stated it was mis-represented in the ebay item description. By bidding you are entering into a legally binding contract with the seller. It CAN be followed through in court. And, especially if the sums are significant (which if its a Corrado it probably will be), is quite possible. Personally, I find it's not just the honesty of the seller, but of the buyer as well.... G60 0 Posted June 23, 2003 i see both sides of this. but who's really going to follow through in court? not worth the hassle... and do you really care about your ebay reputation enough to drop thousands on a crap car? i dont.. i know its a real bugger to back out and i'm sure the seller would be pissed, but if you're backing out because the car isnt what the seller said it was, or something is wrong with it that wasn't mentioned... then what can he complain about? its misrepresentation. VR6 0 Posted June 23, 2003 Just to pretty much sum up what's been said above (not really adding anything of my own :)).... If the seller's description is accurate then you can't back out because you might turn up to pick the car up and it has a dent. You have had time to arrange a viewing before bidding. Well actually you can back out, but the seller can take legal action as you've agreed to purchase something. Different matter if it's been falsely advertised as 'immaculate' for example. stormy 0 Posted June 23, 2003 just put my 2nd penny in!!! I agree and have been talking to a solicitor about this matter of not buying!!! and legally the court 9/10 would throw it out if it went anywhere near them! it is so easy to pull out, as a slight dent, spot of rust incorrect milage etc etc would be basically different to the advertised condition!! therefore you are not legally bound to buy!!!! because the description was incorrect!!! :D
