Ignition Barrel

Recommended Posts

Has anyone changed an ignition barrel on a C? Is it a drill out job like on the MK2?

Also, I want to change the tumblers to match the current key, rather than changing the tumblers in the doors and boot to match the new ignition barrel. Is this possible? I've seen on the new barrel that a locking pin would need to be drifted out in order to get to the tumblers.... they don't come out as easy as they do on the door handles unfortunately. Is this something I should trust VW to do? I've had it done with door and bootlocks before but I reckon they'll rub their heads if I ask them to do the ignition barrel!

Cheers

K

simply order the new barrel with your existing key number... ;)

It is a drill out jobbie, or you can buy the whole lock mechanism and simply remove the old one with a set of maul grips and a hammer (thanks to Stevemac who put up a how-to on that one! ;) )

I haven't got a key number mate!

If they can't do it I'll just buy a bunch of tumblers and do it myself, LOL!

You mean the lock mechanism as in the whole alloy housing? I've just got the barrel itself, came with 2 light keys aswell....shame I can't use them though :(

I don't mind drilling as I've done it before on a MK2 and wasn't difficult. Does it say where you need to drill in the Bentley as I haven't got the manual and need someone to look for me if poss? :D

Just been to the dealer where they very kindly gave me a bag of tumblers and some springs, all FOC :D

So now I can match the keys from the comfort of my own home 8)

Removing the steering lock tumbler from the steering lock housing is almost impossible without shagging the whole lot - I tried.

If you're changing the steering lock tumbler - change the lock mechanism as well.
