Hand brake cover

Recommended Posts

The plastic cover bit on me hand brake has broke around the bottom and now comes off whenever I release the hand brake. Its hitting something in center console, almost as if the leaver itself is bent towards the driver, so it catches on summit and pushes it off. The only way to prevent it is push the leaver towards the passenger side whilst releasing.

Anyone know what this could be? Is it just the fact that the leaver may be bent? Is it a common problem? Is there an easy fix? I remember seeing a few other C's without the plastic bit, so was just wondering.

Well I had exactly the same problem and found that the plate thats spot welded to the shell where the 2 threaded bolts are for the handbrake bracket the fornt one pulled out and the bracket was bent. So I'd investigate that, just remove the tunnel cover to investigate.

Yeah, similar thing happened to mine. The front stud holding the lever to the car had ripped right through its retaining piece of steel (must've had too much spinach that day)

In your case though, it'll be pretty easy to knock the lever back straight once you get all the trim off.

It's ok bending it down but it'll soon come back up if not welded. Just get it welded and it'll be ok. Yet another common Corrado problem.

I think the stock cover looks kind of cheap anyway, I used the leather cover off of a A3 Jetta / Golf...

This was really easy to install, I just trimmed the extra leather off and tucked it into the opening. I had to trim a bit of plastic off of the side of the handle to get it to slip into the console but it has been working well for a few years.

Cheers, Dennis
