Side trim

Recommended Posts

The side trim, (rubbing strip) section in front of the driver's door was loose whilst I was waxing the paintwork, so I pulld it off completely to save losing it.

The adhesive strips are still stuck fast to the wing. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to remove these without damaging the paint, and on what to use to fix the trim back on?

Best wishes

RB

Use 'white spirits' (won't effect the paintwork) & elbow grease. Allow the white spirit to soak into the old tape & it will come off a bit at a time. You will have to reapply the white spirit after each rubbing

Stick the strip back onto the car with a general purpose double sided tape

Roger, yes.

Guys, an even better product than White Spirit is:

"Sticky Stuff Remover" Made by MYKAL. Comes in 250ml. Definitely find it in Focus and probably in similar stores.

Mmmm - Meths: no good, White Spirit: no good, Label Remover Spray: no good, 3-in-1 oil: no good .... oh well, last resort ... Cellulose Thinners!: wow success.

Now I know what you are thinking - is he mad - thinners will take the paint off! Well that's what I thought too but, even with much rubbing, no paint seemed to come off - perhaps because it's metalic and the laquer protects? I think they would ruin flat paints?

Still needed quite some effort even using the thinners... after pulling the strip off, used plastic scrapper to remove as much of foam as possible then thinners on rag to soften remaing adhasive followed be dry rag to take off. T-cut and polish to finish off.
