Stroller 0 Posted April 30, 2005 I have just had a Clifford Concept 650 fittec to my Corrado VR6. Only trouble is, it keeps false alarming! Having read another thread on this forum, it seems I should have bought an AUTOWATCH 160 RLi. They are getting some new ultrasonic sensors to see if that cures the problem, as it seems they fitted the wrong ones in the first place, but I have been waiting six weeks for these to come in. I have got a VSIB Certificate. If I complain to the VSIB, will I be able to get my money back, or should I see if the new sensors make a difference? Does the Autowatch have as many features that you can add on as the Clifford? I live in Surrey. Can someone recommend a really good installer that will do the business; the alarm looms properly soldered and heat shrunk etc. Thanks Stroller
Walesy 0 Posted April 30, 2005 hi....i have an autowatch....in the 10 months i've had it i have had NO trouble at all....it has NEVER gone off when it's not supposed to which is crucial in the road i live in as there is a bikers pub down the road and they are forever roaring past my car on their harleys/trikes!. I'm fairly certain that autowatch do'nt provide as many features or "gimmiks" as clifford. i have a small fob with one button on it----heaven!. hope it wroks out. Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted April 30, 2005 Hi Stroller. Clifford's all come with a lifetime warranty, so you will be able to get it fixed by the original fitter. It does sound like though the internal sensor is just wound up too high. This is normally positionned centrally in the car... under the gear stick plastic cover is where mine is. Its a small black box with a red LED. And in the corner there is a screw which you can twist to sensitise or desensitise the sensor. HTH. As for a fitter - where are you based? Stroller 0 Posted May 1, 2005 According to my fitter the new Clifford ultrasonic sensors are all autoadjusting. He says that there haven't been any in the country and he is awaiting a delivery from Directed Electronics, hence the reson why they fitted the wrong ones in the first place. Not ideal, but I think I will let them fit the new sensors and see what happens before I start all over again! My sensor is not fitted centrally, but under the passenger compartment shelf, near to where the brain and the tilt sensor is. Andi, its nice to come across someone who has some confidence in the Clifford. I think the key here is that it is fitted correctly? Like you I live in sunny Surrey - Epsom to be precise! Thank You Stroller
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted May 1, 2005 Epsom - not far from me then since I'm in Coulsdon :) I use 'Sounds Alarming' in Wallington. Never had a problem with them and they're a right laugh.... and know the Corrado well too. And they know me sufficient that 'its Andi with the Corrado' over the phone lets them know me.... dunno if that's good or bad though... ;)
Stroller 0 Posted May 2, 2005 Andi, Thanks for the info. I will wait and see what happens when the new sensors are fitted. I use 'Sounds Alarming' in Wallington. Never had a problem with them and they're a right laugh.... and know the Corrado well too. Sorry to go off topic temporarily, but did you get my PM and email about the on-going running problems that I am having on the Corrado? Thanks Stroller
junkie 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Got the older clifford 500 never had a problem stroller but i do know cliffords need to be set correctly and installed properly. Seen many cars been took to my audio and security specialist Source Sounds in S.Yorks to have the alarm looked at after some1 else who thinks they can fit these and make a right old mess of them. They sort each and every 1. Although they are a little far away they would do it no problem. If the new sensors dont work take it somewhere else, clifford alarms very rarely go wrong, stick with it! junkie 0 Posted May 10, 2005 You got sorted yet? Asked source they say its not fitted or installed correctly as is always the case. Could be the wrong sensors but they are not auto adjusting none are on cliffords.
exturbo2003 0 Posted June 20, 2005 did you get this sorted out mate. i have had no probs with cliffords and have fitted hundreds of them but to be fair never had ultrasomics always used micro wave. have you done last event recall as shown in your owners manual as that will tell you what caused the last 8 false alarms so you know what sensor it is and then will know if your dealer is telling you porkies or not if you know where the control box for the ultra sonics is then try turning it down with a small screw driver anti clockwise hope this helps
Stroller 0 Posted July 1, 2005 Hi, Some weeks on, still having problems with my Clifford alarm. I have taken it to Sounds Alarming in Wallington, who say that it is a sub-standard install...great! So I have to try and get my money back. I have been in touch with Directed Electronics, but they haven't been very helpful either! And just to cap everything, I have spoken to several Fitters (all VSIB approved) who say they wouldn't touch Clifford with a bargepole, saying it is a gadget or gimmick alarm, and that Cobra, Toad, Sigma and Laserline are all more reliable. How can it be so difficult to fit a good alarm? Stroller
R1-Jay 0 Posted July 27, 2005 got the 650 on my mk3 and what they say is correct, the alarm is only as good as the install. Mine was done by a local chap called studweiser and its a top job. Only false alarms i've had have been when a 50p coin dropped dow the gap where the hand brake is and onto the dual proximity unit. once i removed that it was perfect again. has the remote start and engine monitoring!
