Standard springs? where from?

Hi,

My 95 VR6 was lowered by the previous owner and I want to get back to standard, for the ride, the looks and to retain the originality.

Is it just a case of changing the springs? If so, where can I get them as all of the specialists only seem to sell 'sports / uprated / performance' springs which are lower.

Also, does anyone have a 'blackberry' (purple) bonnet for sale (in good condition).

The late VeRa's got very high suspension for some reason, Have a look at picture's of Dinkus's car in the members gallery, you may be quite suprised at how unnecessarily high the standard springs actually are!

 

Only place to get them is VAG, shocks are cheap but springs are quite expensive i'm afraid... else look out for someone selling there original suspension after an upgrade but bear in mind this will be around 10 years old already....

Hi Supercharged, its the rear suspension that anoys me most - its lower than the front and as a result the car looks very sqat at the back. I know the standard suspension is very high at the back - but hopefully that will stop the door swinging back shut on my legs each time I try to get out of the car!

If anyone has some original rear springs they don't need ( especially in the Derby area ) let me know how much you want for them.

If you buy used springs they tend to be the same height as ~30mm drop as they've sagged over time.

 

Original springs are around £50 a corner from VAG though, so unless you really want OE ride-height, you're better off getting some decent lowered stuff. The H&R's get a good mention from quite a few guys...

Might be your rear rubber bumpstops.

 

They're actually spring assistors as well. If they are perished could be causing the rear to sag a bit

Nah, bumpstops stop the shocks bottoming out and assist the springs to return, they have no effect on ride-height, the car is probably wowered on Eibachs which are renowned for giving dodgy height inconsistancies between front and rear.
