chubbybrown 0 Posted June 8, 2005 just means its taken itspower from the cigagrette lighter supply and thats permanant live somehow you need to use position 1 for your live and permanant for your always on feed rather than sharing perm live
randal 0 Posted June 8, 2005 Yeah, a lot of VW's do this. You can run a wire from the ignition to the stereo to get the traditional "on when the car is running" setup. Or leave as is... ...I quite like it, not having to put power to the ignition system etc... in order to listen to the stereo. Plus, most people these days have face off stereos (which you'd be crazy to leave on the car) that cut the power as soon as they're detached. Problemo solved :D
andy 0 Posted June 8, 2005 You should have two feeds to the stereo, one permanent live and one switched live (ignition). If you have connected the permanent live to the stereo rather than the switched one you will get the symptoms you describe. The permanent live is simply for the memory in the stereo (ie presets etc). If you are losing presets than you have probably got the two wires reversed. They are normally the red wire and the yellow wire. VW is a bit arse about face on this issue. RW1 0 Posted June 8, 2005 All Corrado ignition switches in the column have a "radio on" supply activated by pushing the key in and switching ignition on. This then sets the "Radio ON" but it doesn't switch off until the key is pulled out. ie. you can stop the engine and the ICE can still be powered as long as the key remains in the lock. THe wiring on the standard connectors works this way but I seem to remember you may have to swap a wire over (12 volt perminent / ignition "radio" 12 volts interchanged) as some ICE are not fully compliant with VW's wiring. Had to do this for Alpine at least. I'll dig the files out if you need them.
