mounting for front door speakers??

FYI, i bought this car a little while ago and am getting to wehre i can put in a replacement system for the crap he had in there.. however, when i took off the door panels, i found that there was a little 4" speaker just sitting in the doors' speaker grill... not supported by anything, and the metal surrounds on the door look far wider then that size...

 

my q is where the speakers are supposed to attach in the doors and what size they are supposed to be. TIA

5.25 " and they attach to the door pods

Yup, 5.25" screwed onto the 4 plastic studs sticking out of the back of the door card.

 

Depending on what replacement speakers you get, you may need to put something on the studs to space the speaker away from the door card and stop it touching.
