AlanVW 0 Posted July 22, 2005 Is there anyway to test a MAF Sensor with a voltmeter ?
dr_mat 0 Posted July 22, 2005 Maybe with an oscilloscope and a controlled air flow environment ..
bcstudent 0 Posted July 22, 2005 What are the symptoms of a dodgy air flow meter? I remember the mentioning of cars feeling flat with respect to power delivery but is there anything else, such as spluttering?
dr_mat 0 Posted July 22, 2005 The only result is incorrect fuelling. It can be over or under, therefore you can wind up with stalling, rough running, flatness, pinking, black smoke, all sorts of things .. all of which can also be caused by other things ... exturbo2003 0 Posted July 23, 2005 check the out put wire, depends if you got a 4 wire plug or 6 if 4 check pins 2&4 and at idle you should have 0.8volts and at 3000 1.8v if 6 pin check pins 2&3 and should be 2.3 at idle and 2.8 at 3000 hope this helps
AlanVW 0 Posted July 23, 2005 Thanks, im just still trying to sort out this whole ECU problem, I was using a power probe, and i think it was leading me up the garden path. I have now since ditched it. and am hopefully getting somewhere, I do have another question I have got a shot of another ECU To try but it's from a 97 Golf, and im a 92. K Reg, and im not sure if it will work in my car ?
dr_mat 0 Posted July 23, 2005 Erm.. what engine you got?? Very much doubt a '97 ECU will plug into a '92 loom and sensors array ..
AlanVW 0 Posted July 23, 2005 I have a K Reg, Golf VR6, Engine Code AAA The ECU I have got is from a 97 VR6 dont really know anything else about it. besides that. My ECU relay has definately burnt out, trying to resolder it seeing if it will work again, but i think i may of damaged my ECU with that bloody powerprobe. dr_mat 0 Posted July 23, 2005 If your Golf has the electronic throttle body AFAIK it should be the same as the AAA ECU from the 97 car, if I'm not mistaken at least ... But I thought it was only 95-> VR6s that got OBD2 and electronic throttles..?

Throttle body changed in August 1995 so that's at least one area were it works differently. Later ECU expects motorised throttle.
