Help Please......rear light wiring!!

Recommended Posts

Have to sort this or E38 is off for me

I have some new rear lights, surposedly InPro but i dont think they are!

anyway, they have their own bulb holders so its bye bye vag ones, with the following wires coming out

TOP BULB - Green/Yellow and White black

BOTTOM - Plain Green and White Black (Joined to top Black/White)

and a Red/Green one

The original wiring has

Black/White

Grey/White

Brown

Brown/Red

These are the main light units, im hoping those on the boot lid will not be a problem!

Help please as i smashed a rear and have to fit these to get to e38!!

PS: Dont ask how i smashed it!

Cheers very much

Nick

Alright mate the bentley has the following connections so I am hoping the uk spec is the same..

The plain brown wire is the earth wire on your car, looking at the list for your new lights I would guess that the white/black is the earth wire.

The rear left turn signal has a black/white wire running to it.

The rear left tail light bulb has a grey/black wire running to it.

The rear left brake light bulb has a black/red wire running to it.

The rear right turn signal has a black/green wire

The rear right tail light bulb has a grey/red wire

The rear right brake light bulb has a black/red wire.

You could try sorting the earth wire out as it is fairly clear which one that is, if you then put the hazzards on and touch the new wire that the indicator is attached to the old wires in turn you should find out which one is the indicator.

You can repeat the above process to work out the lights and then that just leaves you with the brakes and by a process of elimination you should know which one it is!

get hold of some MALE spade terminals. Crimp them onto the wires from the bulb holders which came with the new lights and then you can simply plug them into the original wiring connector without having to butcher the loom... ;)
