avoiding arch scrubbing?

got a little problem,have mentioned it on other threads but no clues as yet. my n/s front wheel is catching the arch no matter how much i lift the front end,funny cos the o/s is well clear of any contact.

i know some of you guys run lower than me and wondered how youve got round the problem?

as far as i can tell,everythings in order,however when the rain lets up i need to check my offsets.

do i need to modify the arch liner or could it be somethin else?

any advice is appreciated as usual! thanks

Did you have the front camber re-aligned after you altered the suspension ?

 

As you can see from my piccy below, mine's quite low & doesn't catch or rub anywhere since I had the camber set-up properly.

what tyres and wheel sizes ahev u got

 

also as steve states you can get ya camber adjusted 1 or 2 degrees negative to help

 

although i think ur problem maybe your tyres /wheels/ size , ET etc

can you get a good pic of each side m8?

 

but id be checking the et of your wheels first,and then get the camber etc checked out as the guys say.

 

if you park on a good/flat surface a spirit level could give you a good idea :lol: or you should be able to tell just by looking.

right had a look and the wheels are 7.5 x 17 on an et 37 offset,sending it in for tracking and camber tomorrow! think they may be a little wide?

I've 8 * 17's and no rubbing, so I would have thought 7.5 * 17's would be fine, what tyre size do you have?

As a guide - mine are 7.5x17 rims with 205/40WR17 tyres.

 

Used to rub like fcuk until I had the camber set-up properly. I've heard many people say that there's little or no front camber adjustment on Corrado's - complete rubbish, there's at least 5 degrees worth of adjustment on mine!

they,re 205/40/17s got it in for camber setting tomorrow. any recommendations on the degree?

they,re quite reputable so they should know what to do.... i hope!

well just got my car back from a so called vw specialist they,ve cured my problem but in the process whilst playing with my coilovers, chewed up all the adjusting rings,theyve not covered five miles yet!!!!

needless to say im extremley annoyed! any suggestions on a course of action?

cubed, Take your car back to the garage & demand that they rectify any damage that they have caused.

 

They shouldn't have touched the coilover height adjusting rings at all, in order to correct a camber problem.

ive done as you,ve recomemnded and the units are being replaced, they say my subframe is twisted slightly. so they compensated with the coilovers.

rang this morning was polite,but assertive they,re getting it sorted monday

 

they assured me my chassis is unharmed,but i dont know if its worth replacing that subframe??

could it be costly!!

so camber cant be set to the degree i need cos of the subframe.

I'd be interested to know how/where the subframe's twisted.

 

Has the car been in an accident at some point ?

yeah i think so,ive known about it being bumped before for sometime,like i say the chassis straight all factory sealer is intact.

get a feeling its been pushed out by a bump on the wheel. but its purley speculation!

i,m going to have to look when the rain finally lets up!!!

i,l replace it if need be as im planning on keeping it a long time!
