1.8 16v Top Speed

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what the top speed without mods a 1.8 16v can get, my old car being a Mk1 Golf GTI Cabriolet 8v got about 120mph and I'm hoping for more.

Cheers,

Morpheus

Hope to see you all at Guildford next Wednesday.

Oh, btw, can someone also tell me, when you lock the car with the key and the windows roll up, is the sunroof meant to as well as mine doesn't and I don't know if this means it is faulty.

Yes, it is meant to.

And the top speed is listed as 131mph, if I remember correctly (nerd alert)

Should do about 136.. if the car has a few minor mods or tweaks, and a good amount of mileage on it to loosen it up a little, it should just about do that.

Just make sure you aint gonna get busted trying to get there :)

right Autocar tested the 1.8 16v Corrado 31/05/89

these are the figures they obtained

power..............136bhp

torque..............119lb/ft

top speed.........131mph

0-60................8.7 secs

30-70mph........8.3 secs.....thru the gears

30-50mph........9.0 secs.....in 4th

50-70mph........12.1 secs...in 5th

1/4 mile time...16.5 secs....no speed given

overall mpg.....29.5mpg....recorded on test

touring mpg.....34.6mpg....(50%urban/25% 56mph/25% 75mph)

as for the total closure i think the sunroof was part of "total closure" at a later date so think your Corrado is ok

Had mine at 130... then I got scared and eased off

As for the central locking business....

I think earlier C's only put the windows up when the key's turned in the lock.

Later ones do the windows and also the sunroof.

Interested in biggrims idea about the relay though.

I was doing 120mph on M1 3 weeks ago (whoops i didnt say that) with 4 people and full boot, but with just a few people in the car you should get between to 125 -130 depending on the condition of the engine?

as for the sunroof closing with the key? i didnt actually find out that you could close the windows buy just turning the key untill about a month ago :) and my sunroof doent close either? so it may need another relay or sumthing and might of been a standard feature on the VR6? not sure though or mine is broken too

I think the total full closure was just a later a model / facelift feature - i.e. from 1992 models onwards. My '94 2.0 16v had it so definately not VR specific :)

yes but the "test" G-60 was in fact their own long-termer which not long after them taking figures needed a new G/box(2nd gear problems)about 2k miles later so the bulk of their times are slower than the 16v

here goes tho.......10/10/90

power..............160bhp

torque..............165lb/ft

top speed.........137mph

0-60................8.9 secs

30-70mph........8.8 secs.....thru the gears

30-50mph........7.7 secs.....in 4th

50-70mph........9.6 secs...in 5th

1/4 mile time...16.8 secs....no speed given

overall mpg.....22mpg....recorded on test

touring mpg.....30.3mpg....(50%urban/25% 56mph/25% 75mph)

My 16v did 135 with 160,00 miles on da clock. Not bad I thought. As for the full closure the sunroof won't work. You could try and wire it into the locking system but the sunroof uses quite a lot of power, so u may end up killing the battery.
