Ice White Socks 0 Posted August 12, 2003 Not that its going to cause me too much bother in this weather  but I spent the weekend cleaning and remoisturising the leather (auto glym stuff- made a BIG difference!), turned on the seats just to check and neither work :x  I heve checked the fuse, checked the plugs that go into each seat but all looks good. There must be a relay/ control unit somewhere for this- Does anyone know where :?:
biggrim 0 Posted August 13, 2003 Ithink there is something behind the passenger seat under the carpet/floor. When you switch the seats on normally do you remember hearing a clicking noise from that area? Not 100% though but remember Joe M saying something like that. I'm sure someone will be able to give you a definitive answer. Not much help really
vr6storm 0 Posted August 13, 2003 if you listen carefully when you switch on/off the heated seats you should hear the relay "click" and it sounds like it comes from the rear passenger side :? or thereabouts...........if it clicks then see if the wires going into the underside of each seat are properly connected.........failing that then it could well be the "heat-pads" in each seat have given up the ghost........not cheap as i've heard VW want approx £100 per side

Ice White Socks 0 Posted August 13, 2003 OK- Now things get technical :( the relays work and the seats heat up ever so slightly. The seats must be thermostatically controlled and the control unit must think the seats are hotter they really are because you can hear the relay clunk off again after about 15 secs. If anyone could look in a manual and tell me where this relay is it would be much appreciated :) :) I'll get the bugger replaced with a new one. Cheers

Cheers it could also maybe be the actual control switch on the dashboard thats playing up...........as this has 5 heat settings also i've found that the heated leather seats don't really get as hot as heated cloth seats(used to have heated cloth seats in my Ur-quattro) for obvious reasons(leather being thicker than cloth etc) and it can take a wee while for the leather seats to get nice and toasty.........maybe your not giving it long enough might be worth checking before splashing out some cash
