steve @ 0 Posted January 1, 2006 The interior fan on my VR has decided to start playing up. I can only get any air on the last setting (4th I think) and when I do it makes a nasty loud sound from the passenger side of the car. Is something buggered? It has been fine up until yesturday. GIXXERUK 0 Posted January 1, 2006 steve @, lol i've just got up myself   sounds like the bearing or even possibly something stuckin the fan blades, plus the resistor
gradeAfailure 0 Posted January 1, 2006 If it's got the later heater controls, check that the contacts in the fan speed switch are making proper contact - I thought my resistor had blown but it's actually the switch...
GIXXERUK 0 Posted January 1, 2006 gradeAfailure, - dave means pull the knob off the fan speed control and check the copper strip behind it isn't too dirty making a poor contact this and the sunroof are the most common problems with the c (lots to choose from :-) ) , take a week off work and search heater

steve @ 0 Posted January 1, 2006 Well I ve taken the fan apart cleaned and lubed it up which cured the noise. Took the dial apart cleaned the copper conector up etc but that hasnt cured it so must be the resistor which looks like its already been change previously. Supercharged 2 Posted January 1, 2006 Sure it's the resister and not the thermal fuse?
steve @ 0 Posted January 1, 2006 Sorry thats what I meant lol
Valerian 0 Posted January 1, 2006 Thermal fuses do not have a great life span .......the older your motor gets the shorter the life span of the thermal resisitor will get. Changed mine a few weeks back and found someone had just soldered a link across the terminals rather than changing the fuse.
Supercharged 2 Posted January 1, 2006 They go as the motor looses lubrication, gets old and draws more current... Maplins do the fuses for about 49p I think...
Valerian 0 Posted January 1, 2006 Maplin part number RA19 Thermal Fuse 184C .......£0.47 + Vat Including postage it cost me £3.06 You can order online at http://www.maplin.co.uk just type RA19 into the search bar on the Maplins home page and you will find the part
