catch_twotwo 0 Posted January 5, 2006 Ok, another item to add to the "need to fix at somepoint" list.... Quite regularly when I'm sitting at traffic lights, I can see the dash lights and the headlights flickering slightly. This isn't a problem when moving, and it's had a new heavy duty Varfa battery installed a few weeks back. Is it something to do with the alternator ? maybe a replacement/upgrade is in order..... any idea of cost ?
RW1 0 Posted January 6, 2006 In view the battery has been changed, just check the two battery connections are fully gripping, ie, you can' t twist them by hand. Don't over tighten, only 10ftlb max. torque required. Check the alternator belt is tensioned correctly with engine stopped. Ie. no more than 1cm to 1.5cm deflection on the longest distance between pulleys in the loop. Although self tensioning, it may be weak or stuck if the deflection is greater. . catch_twotwo 0 Posted January 6, 2006 Ok, could be the battery connections as after the battery was replaced it was fine.... then as the alarm was replaced it started again. So looks like the alarm fitter was sloppy. I'll check the alternator belt as well though... Thanks for the hints....
Stan 24v 0 Posted January 6, 2006 Check the voltage at the battery with the car running too, should be aroun 14v max. Mine had the same symptoms but was kicking out enough power to light Blackpool tower!!!
