AAAARRRGGGHHH!!! I broke a bolt!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I was giving my rear caliper a clean and managed to shear the sodding bolt that holds the handbrake return spring.

I can drill the bolt out and rethread it no probs, its finding a replacement bolt i'm having difficulty with.....

any advice anyone?

also while i'm here does anyone know if theres a caliper overhaul kit i can buy?

cheers in advance!!

In all honesty, now might be a good time to upgrade to Mk4 Golf rear calipers. No more rear brake seizures :-)

I took the opportunity when my rear brakes seized, leading to a failed MOT, despite cleaning and regreasing (of the handbrake lever pin going into the caliper) efforts.

I'de imagine your VW dealer would be able to get you a bolt .

If you have any probs i can visit a local engineering supplier and forward one on to you.

Hey guys

My cars a 91 G60 think the mark 4 is a 5 stud disk isn't it?

I can't really afford to do it anyway to be honest I'm trying to buy a flat at the mo so every penny saved is going to help... :(

Thanks Valerain, I'll try the main dealer I kinda thought they might say I'd have to buy a new caliper or something....

but yeah failing that if you could sort me out a bolt that'd be awesome!!

thanks again!!

You still use the same disks, but you change the calliper to a Mk4 one, so it doesn't matter how many studs you've got :)

But yeah, if you're on a budget, £2 for a bolt is probably a better bet.

I think all the Mk4 rear callipers are the same, so er any of them.

The fronts are a completely different kettle of fish tho.
