Tyre size for 17x7.5" wheels?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

sure the answers here some where, but checked the wiki and search, but no joy so far..

I have a set of 17x7.5" wheels that need tyres, and thought they would need to be 205/50/17.. however, as ive been looking around, it would appear that the tyre is too deep. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? I want a slightly stretched look, and would rather not roll the arches for now if i can get away with it!

One thing im slightly concerned about, is a link from the wiki gave me this information...

Your new wheel will have the following chracteristics:

The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be THE SAME

The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 26mm

Do i have to worry about the extra width?

Also, as im probably in trouble for posting without finding something from the search, does anybody recommend a particular tyre/supplier for what ill be after?

Thanks in advance,

Baz.

Yep, 205/40/17 is what you need. 50s will be massively oversized.

Some tyres are broader shouldered than others. I've had 205s that look wider than 215s! Just the luck of the draw really. The 205 section F1 sits perfectly on 7.5s if it's any help.

cool, 40's it is then. Ive had F1's before on my old polo in a 195/45/15, and found them scary when cornering. that may have been more to do with the car though?
