Reverse lights

Recommended Posts

On topic...

Where should I start and look? Why do they occassionally work? Anyone suffered this amusing problem?

Is it an easy fix? Need to do something before I get caught out :D

Thanks

This maybe the switch on the gearbox. Located just ahead of the gear change cables (pair) on top of the box. The electrical connector is on the forward side of the unit. If both lights goe out, would suspect this. If only one, look at the bulb or the wire connector to the rear lamp units.

Extreme but may have happened, one of the wires has chaffed inside one of the rubber gaitors where the rear hatch hinges are on the top side.

Had a similar problem with my mk2 Golf - the switch is easy to test; remove and press the connector at the bottom with ign on/rev engaged etc. It could be that the lever in the gear box that pushes the switch is no longer making contact (as in my case) - I had to file down the switch bolt by 1mm (above the thread) so that I got an extra turn when the switch was bolted in and hence allowing the lever to push it to make the circuit - Anyway I thought it was a clever fix.
