H36VDM 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Thanks for the nice comments everyone. The suspension kit was from GSF car parts ... I'm sure it was listed as 40mm drop? (by the way - the guys in GSF swinton are genuine VW fans ... I'm on 1st name terms with a few of them) If it looks lower than 40mm, it might explain a couple of things ... 1. The chaos i caused getting on the ferry to france (on way to le mans classic) ... entry ramp and every ramp after that. 2. The big scrape that happens EVERY time i go in and out of the NCP near work. 3. The "fun" I have getting dragged onto flatbeds when the C breaks down. 4. Speed bumps ... sigh

H36VDM 0 Posted February 9, 2006 A well clean & cared for valver, nice one mate... Shucks .... ... that's really kind of you mate. I'll get some piccies of the interior up soon. It's very clean except a rip in the driver bolster fabric (*Note, do not wear jeans with zip rear pockets. Mr Baker has a lot to answer for. :x ) That's another one of my list of things to fix (and yes, I will search the forum for answers!! I'm too busy reading other stuff)
Bally 0 Posted February 9, 2006 no probs.. as I said for the mileage its a clean motor... you done anything to the engine or is stock?
KADVR6 0 Posted February 9, 2006 very nice mate, a true testament to vw this car is, how many 15 year old fords/vauxhall's etc do you see in this great condition??? not many
H36VDM 0 Posted February 9, 2006 No, there are no mods to the engine (don't think irridium plugs count do they?) The head was recon'd by dubsport when they put the green card engine in (VW replacement!). So yeah, standard-ish? I would "like" to put a gas flow'd & ported head on (already had a qoute from the almighty vince for £900ish) And my exhaust needs doing too ... cat back i think. ... So if i was doing the head, I'd have to do a suitable exhaust too. Maybe one day ...
Bally 0 Posted February 9, 2006 cool... £900 mate shop around...
H36VDM 0 Posted March 18, 2007 I bought my Corrado about five years ago for a little under 3K. Since then, I must have spent around twice that keeping it on the road. I've got a folder full of receipts and every MOT certificate. She's done 250,000 miles now. Off the top of my head: (Few years ago) Replacement VW green card engine 100,000 miles ago - by dubsport. 40mm Lowered sport suspension (GSF car parts) (More recently, within last 6-12 months) £500 on rear suspension stuff Exhaust, down-pipe back (From KwikFit, sorry, was desperate!) Last 1-2 months £500 on head gasket & recon'd head £500 on new clutch The interior is in good condition. I recently bought a passenger seat from a LHD to replace my drivers seat. My passenger seat rarely gets sat in, the rear seats have never been used - it's even got genuine Corrado floor mats from VW (the ones with the Corrado script on!) Good points: Taxed, MOT'd, still drives brilliantly. Paintwork is in good condition BUT see the bad points! Bad points: I've spent £500 having the head gasket done. She's drinking water - I have to top up the overflow bottle every 100 miles. :x Four or five rust spots on the bonet lip. Front bumper has a few battle scars - nothing massive! Few small spots where rust is starting to break through the paint - again, nothing massive! I'm selling her because I've bought a '04 Golf GT TDI. I'm driving 500+ miles a week and the corrado can't take it anymore. I can't afford to be doing it at 28-30 mpg either! So, she has to go. Before I put her on e-bay, I'd like her to go to an enthusiast - I reckon she'd be a great second Corrado for someone mechanically minded to play with! I reckon for less that £1000 you could get the water problem fixed and all the rust spots done - you'd have a very tidy looking corrado that would drive like a dream and be good for at least another 100,000 miles!!! I would do this myself, but i've recently done the same thing (fixed engine and a re-spray) to a Porsche 924S and I don't have the time, the money or the garage space any more! Okay, so now the crunch - how much do I want? I honestly don't know. Anyone like to make me an offer?? Sorry moderators, I was going to post this in cars for sale - but i don't know how much I want for her?? What's most important to me is that she goes to a good home!! :D
vr6storm 0 Posted March 18, 2007 so its a feeler thread
H36VDM 0 Posted March 18, 2007 You could say that ... more like a "I don't expect anyone will want this car and I don't want to scrap her" thread ... :D
vr6storm 0 Posted March 18, 2007 well instead of trying to elicit offers perhaps its worthwhile doing it the proper way and putting a price on it..........if its too cheap or too dear someone will let you know :D its just feeler threads to me are a bit of a peeztake and a way of circumventing forum rules,I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this too as an aside...........you got any pics of your 924S and how much restoration did you do to it?...........i've also got a 924S thats needing some work done and want to know likely costs/pitfalls etc
H36VDM 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Ok. point taken. I'm not trying to take the peas or circumvent any rules, I honestly thought it wouldn't be worth posting in the cars for sale ... Don't laugh, but, I would like some of the £1000 I recently spent back ... I'll repost ... thanks for the heads-up. I've a few pics of the 924, we paid someone else to do it for us (around £2000). Full re-spray with all the parking dings & dents taken out. I think the sills needed welding ... It also had a radiator fan problem and rear wheel bearings needed doing. With hindsight, I think I would have rather done the work to the Corrado and sold the Porsche. The Corrado feels quicker and more stable on the road. The seats are more comfortable and it's a quieter car. Side by side, I think the corrado looks nicer too!
H36VDM 0 Posted March 18, 2007 As requested ... here's the restoration pics!
