MOT fail

:( My C had a sad day today down the local mot place failed on the offside front headlight aim being too low when in the centre of the headlamp is below 850mm from the ground....... the problem being the offside adjuster on the headlamp is insecure its basically buggered does anyone know if you can get the part or maybe someone has one kickin aboot in their garage i could buy or is it a brand new or second hand headlight jobby???

also failed cause the horn doesnt work but that shouldnt be too hard to locate the problem.

your help appreciated!

Yeah i know its not that bad but i still need to get it working! i am actually quite happy that it didnt need more work but still got niggly probs anyway like the bloody bonnet thingy and the scratchy window

can i get just the adjusters or do i need to buy a new headlamp from say GSF and does this come with the adjuster or can i get the adjuster from VW

i would appreciate an answer on this tonight as i have to get it fixed tomorrow or pay for a retest??????

Would the adjuster from a mark three golf fit????

you get two weeks for a free retest, not two days, tell mot place to chill out!

mucho appreciated andy the garage saying its something to do with the fact they will need to put the car back on the machine to test the headlight angle so therefore the charge....Still doesnt answer my question though? Can i get the adjuster or is it a whole light jobby?

Whats more, my height adjuster was also buggered - I did a repair job by pulling out the knob and sticking a thick rubber (tap) washer in between onto the thread.This levelled out the lamps.

 

Im looking to replace them anyway with some inpros.

 

BTW- Does anyone know if this is a clampdown due to the new MOT rules..ive been taking cars for MOTs for years now and they've never been this thorough....

My local MOT station also no longer offer free retests, again quoting the new MOT rules (VOSA's computer system etc.), and that they in actual fact have to do a complete new test on everything :-(

Sorry Rick, I do personally don't know, but you could probably raid the part from a used/smashed headlight. I can't get access to my other computer (ETKA) so I can't help, sorry

Robbing barstewards, so now we'll be paying out more money unless our cars are perfect. I think some garages will take advantage of the situation by inventing faults that don't exist(as they do now), then most owners will agree to have the work done then and then to save paying for a retest, whereas before you had time to get a second opinion or repair it yourself.

 

I use an mot station that doesn't do repair work(and therfore does honest mot's) but now I'll be in the situation that if the car fails on a major point, I'll have only one day to source parts and repair it myself, there'd be no chance in getting it done at a decent specialist at such short notice.. :x :mad:

 

Rick, why don't you ring/call in at a VAG dealer, they should be able to tell you if you can buy them seperately.

does anyone know the part number for the adjusters? been on the blower to the brain and he thinks he's got the part for £10 :) but not sure says its hard to see on the diagram wont get to me though until friday which means another £44.50 for a test :mad2:

Had a look on etka - on the headlamp page there is a part no. 535 941 297 (Adaptor with adjusting screw for vertical adjustment) its it made up of an adjusting screw and a seal.

 

I can't guarantee its the right number but there is nothing else listed as an adjuster. The part number is the same for all years 88-95, but note that the headlight housing/glass etc. itself changed in 1992.
