LIVE MAPPING!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys my friend who has a very highly tuned ford escort rs 280ish bhp has just been and has his car live mapped and he has been telling me how much better it is now!

the mapping bloke took his car out 3 times logging and changing map requirements on a his in car pc! he also sat down and spoke to him for 20mins just about what he wanted from his car!

So im just wondering has anyone had live mapping done on there corrado and if so where did you get it done??

Live mapping, or "on the road tuning" doesn't always give better results than dyno tuning. It's just easier for mapping franchises that don't have fixed premises or use of a dyno.

There's no way Stealth would be able to map mine on the road...... he has about 3 or 4 electronic boxes resting on the scuttle, VAG-COM and dyno wiring hanging out of the door and a wide band lambda trailing across the floor, not to mention having to watch two computers and a dyno needle simultaneously, LOL! :-)

You also need an ECU that can be tuned by a serial port (or OBD2 port) in order to live map, so your mate must have an offboard ECU, RS Turbos are K Jetronic as standard like the 16V.

Live mapping is popular with Scoob boys as it's quick and easy.

You can use a dummy ECU with a blank chip in it and the software on the laptop..... that's another way of doing it..... need to copy some baseline binary onto the chip first though :-)

you use an ecu with an emulator instead of the chip,, this is plugged into the laptop and the original chip information is stored in teh laptop,, you edit this until you get the results, mixture timing across the range (no short task) you want and then use this saved file to burn a new chip and place into the original ECU,,

With a dyno you can hit diffferent loads at diferent rpm`s very easily which makes it a lot better for mapping. On the other side of the coin live mapping can show up areas that may not have been touched on the rollers (acceleration enrichment effects etc). Would have tought most MS`s have been live mapped with reasonble results.
