alternator burning smell pls help.

hi ppl, my alternator is making a strange dull whining noise and it smells like something is burning and also my radio has started to produce a loud interferance noise which gets louder when the car is revving and my battery keeps going dead. i just had a water pump fitted at VW (£240) then this happens. an1 with any ideas of this prob on a vr6 pls post a reply. thx

think youve basically answered it your self...your alternator is on its way out

it "could" be the alter nator bushes, they wear out and need changine from time to time, disconnect the battery and undo the two screws that hold them in and check the wear the tolerance is about 5mm +-1mm if they are low change them first, they are really cheap.
