quicky1980 0 Posted May 5, 2006 Are there any differences with late and early versions of the trim that goes around the sunroof switch and light? I know the later one has the sunroof switch integrated within the light and so one less hole. I ask becasue i have a late motor in my car now and i cant put the lights back in so im guessing that the later trims are deeper? Does anyone have a late one? I need one Thank
Bojmobile 0 Posted May 5, 2006 I think there is a difference to accomodate different switch setup. Don't have a part though mate! Soz!

quicky1980 0 Posted May 5, 2006 if you do that would be cool because at the moment i have no interior lights and the sunroof switch is just hanging
JMC 0 Posted May 6, 2006 Looks like there are two different parts numbers for these - I've just bought one for my G60 and it ends in a different letter (one ends in an A the other a B). Slightly different design where it hooks over the sunroof hole, but it dosne't look as though one is deeper than the other...
quicky1980 0 Posted May 7, 2006 dosne't look as though one is deeper than the other... I hope your wrong about this, otherwise there's no way i can have interior lighting as well as the later style motor on the sunroof
JMC 0 Posted May 7, 2006 It wouldn't be the first time I was wrong quicky1980 so don't be alarmed yet  I ordered a second trim for my G60 as I have just fitted a Passat W8 interior light and I needed something to hack around. The one they sent me was very similar to mine, but had a different code number (the last letter was different) so I assumed it was a later one, rather than my early one. It is the same size as they original one, the only difference being in the shape of the lip which fits round over the roof at the sunroof end. The lights were a real tight fit on mine (prone to trapping wires under them). So hopefully there's a way of getting yours to fit.
quicky1980 0 Posted May 8, 2006 well mines not tight, it impossible. I just hope the later surrounds are deeper or more angled. Does yours have two appatures? or just the one?
JMC 0 Posted May 8, 2006 Mine (and the one I bought as a spare) has 2 holes cut in it - one for the light and one for the sunroof switch.
quicky1980 0 Posted May 8, 2006 ah, the one i need has one hole, just for the lights, due to the switch being built in them too
JMC 0 Posted May 8, 2006 Phew - that probably means that there were two different early ones (???).
quicky1980 0 Posted May 8, 2006 not sure. well i have someone whos selling a late surround and it has one hole so hopefully that will help matters
Blinky16v 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Hiya quicky1980, I have the following bit of kit, but I am missing a working Sunroof switch in it... PM me if you want it dude:
quicky1980 0 Posted May 12, 2006 dont worry Blinky16v, I have done it all now. I had the lights and switches just couldnt fit it all in to the early type light surround but now I shave got the later one it fits a treat. I used the passats lights and sunroof surround in fact ill go take pics
quicky1980 0 Posted May 12, 2006 heres the final result. is blue to chavy?? Switch needs a clean really.
Blinky16v 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Dosen't look bad mate, I've got an ice white LED in mine but thinking about blue so cheers for posting up the piccies, food for thought... I notice your sunroof switch is dfferent, is that a Passat part?

quicky1980 0 Posted May 12, 2006 only problem i have with them is that they arent as bright as standard items. doesnt matter really because theres a map reading light too which i can use. Looks great at night.
JMC 0 Posted May 12, 2006 That looks really good quicky1980. Good to know the later style surrounds to have a bit more depth to play around with.
kerrinmay 0 Posted May 19, 2006 quicky1980 can I ask your reasons for fitting a later spec sunroof motor? Was it to get full closure working (because this isn't available on the early sunroofs)? What features does the later motor and switch give you other than this? Do you get one-touch opening/closing?
quicky1980 0 Posted May 19, 2006 quicky1980 can I ask your reasons for fitting a later spec sunroof motor? Was it to get full closure working (because this isn't available on the early sunroofs)? What features does the later motor and switch give you other than this? Do you get one-touch opening/closing? to be honest the main reason was because I was unbale to remove the motor off the sunroof (rounded off screw), so I had to stick with, i could have drilled it off but thought might aswell do the whole change to late correctly. the new switch operates as before ie forward and backwards but it also has a third buttom which allows you to press and hold so it will go to tilt position from what ever position its in already. Ill also wire it up to the alarm to enable full closure as soon as i know how, pretty sure that the one wire thats for total closure just needs a +ve pulse to fully close the sunroof. kerrinmay 0 Posted May 19, 2006 Thanks for the info. I like the sound of the third position for automatically moving to tilted. No one-touch wide open though? Guess I'll need a new motor, new switch and light and housing etc to convert mine across from the older style.
quicky1980 0 Posted May 19, 2006 Guess I'll need a new motor, new switch and light and housing etc to convert mine across from the older style. yeah those parts are what I needed to convert it. Suppose you could have one touch open if you use a closure module. I may try that. If I succeed I'll let you know
kerrinmay 0 Posted May 19, 2006 Thanks. Just been reading another thread, and I think I'll struggle to fit a later sunroof motor to my early mechanism, apparently there is some indentation or something that is not present on the earlier ones which will cause the newer motor to foul. I guess you had no problem if you were actually fitting a different sunroof as well. As I have no desire to change my panel/mechanism, think I'll have to stick with my old style motor/switch. Would be good if I could link it up to make it close with the alarm though, even if I need to purchase some kind of closure module for it.
