Where to get a clay bar - and when/how to apply it

Hi

 

I've had a good look but can't find the answer - does Halfords sell a clay bar for removing dirt - or do I need to order this from a specialist supplier? And do I apply after I have washed and chamoixed the car but before I polish the car, and then wax it last of all?

meguirs do a clay bar/detailing spray combo....this is available from halfords btw.......just follow the instructions.....from memory you don't need to chamois the car.....but you need to lubricate the clay bar while using it,but its deffo before you wax it

Yeah they do, It can be usually found with the meguairs stuff, its called quick clay. you can also buy it on fleebay.

I use Meguirs Claybar and detailer which can be bought from Halfords.

 

Wash car, then use claybar then wax, then stand back and admire.

I used just the 3 step (meguairs cleaner, polish then wax) process before the RR day, I was happy with the result, however i shall use the clar bar soon once that wax has worn off

worth mentioning that of the three halfords in bristol and the one in bath its only the biggest store that stocks it.

wash, chamios, clay bar, polish, wax in that order should be spanking.

Quick Tip

 

When washing by hand using a CLEAN mitt or sponge

 

Use the two bucket method.

 

Fill one bucket with hot water with car shampoo in it

 

fill the second bucket with hot/warm water

 

When washing the car use bucket one for washing and bucket two for washing the mitt/sponge, before dipping back into bucket one

 

This way bucket ones water remains clean and dirty free, and should stop those nasty bits of grit getting rubbed across the paint work.

I have 2 of the Megs Glass m/f cloths (white with blue fabric edging on them) and they are really good.

 

Not so impressed with the Water magnet cloths though as I can't seem to get on with it. I am still using a blade with 2 older m/f cloths that I have as they work.

 

Megs Clay is OK for when the weather is coller, but when the temps get up is is rubbish to work with as it goes too soft. Some of the other ones that you can get hold of are better, as they are firmer to start with and therefore easier to use when it warms up :wink:....
