immobliser pickup coil fault

i have an intermittent fault with the immobliser picked up by VAGCOM, i have attached a word file with the recorded fault.

 

01128 fault found with immobliser pickup coil.

 

this is the fault found when the car starts and then dies, and when the car is running the fault reads:

 

intermitent fault - Engine blocked by immboliser on startup.

 

anyone got any suggestions, purhaps its a fault with the ignition key chip

sorry i put this under drivetrain, but i cannot work out how to move it to technical, if someone knows can they do it for me - sorry for being lame

I'd search for "immobiliser AND coil" if I were you !

Engine start blocked by immobiliser from what i have read from a post from kevhaywire, is something to do with the crank sensor.

 

a) where is this located

b) does anyone no a price and a part number for one

c) Is it easy to fit

Nope. It's the immobiliser coil, in the steering column. Or it's the connection from there to the immobiliser control box under the dash. Look for some excellent posts by RW1.

The car would not start at all if you had a faulty crank sensor, and the error code would call out "engine speed sensor", not "immobiliser".
