Problems with the water supply (Advice needed)

hello peeps jus a bit of adivice needed:

last week i was driving down the road and my water temp light came on parked up down the orad and had a leak (couldnt tell where from because it was dark). Topped up the water and drove home abt 1/2 mile journey than in the morning checked the water and drove the car to the garage abt 1 mile journey.

 

Mechanic changed the leaking water pump and still no joy as the water was being blocked and the rad was cold , so he changed the thermostat and still he has no joy. the water goes up the 110degrees and the fan kicks in and then drops to 90 degrees but water is still boiling. He has know told me that the head gasket is f*****. I dont think this is the case. I am thinking about changing the thermostat over again coz i reckon i got a dodge one and then go from here.

 

What do u guys think?????????????????????????

Try replacing the expansion tank cap - if the valve is faulty in the cap then the pressure in the system in released, which causes the water to boil. They are less than a tenner so it's worth a go :wink:

Pull out the thermostat . It should work and enable the water to move through. Then open the heater so that the heater is on hot. Run the engine with the cap off until it drops, and fill it up gently with boiling water until all air leaks are out.

 

Then cap, and run.

 

Check your oil levels if ok, the oil temp can be monitored on the MFA, if this gets above 130 deg Cent before the water comes up to 100 deg F, then the oilways or waterways need to be sorted out.

if the engine is hot and the radiator is cold it has to be the thermostat

Or a King size air lock.

 

Coolant should be filled via the rad top hose and not the expansion tank as this forces air out of the block and head from the bottom up. Pouring it in from the expansion tank just introduces air as the water pours down into the galleries.

 

Stick a hose in the rad and see if water comes out first, you may have a blockage.

Got it sorted in the end thanks to my mate at G-werks with the long and late phone calls and good advice. Knowledge is power as they say :D ur a star, appreciate it

what was the answer?

I have some similar stuff going on. I'm gona' try filling from the top hose like suggested above (tomorrow) and see if there is any air in there.

Guage doesn't go up but just a very little, but oil will get hot. original problem started when I drove with the rad cap lose (oops!). I saw the oil (not the water) get hot and when I pulled over it was blowing steam. Maybe I got air in there when I quickly added water/coolant? Guage won't hit normal anymore but oil gets hot too easily now.

Am I on the right track?
