Buster 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Hi all, This is my third day as a Corrado owner and my first post! Great site and thanks in advance for reading my post. I have 90G, 1.8 16v Corrado. The problem is the indicators flash correctly when I turn on/off the alarm but when i indicate to turn the light in the dashboard comes on and remains on. It doesnt flash and the indicators do not illuminate at all. They were working when i bought it 3 days ago! I dont know anything about cars or electrics but thought it might be a chafed wire, or bad contact from the indicator lever itself? Can anyone recommend a good garage in aberdeen that can fault find electrical problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Regards, Buster. :)
Henny 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Most alarms do all of the flashing internally so don't use the car's indicator relay or fuse which is why this will still work... If your indicator switch turns on the green light on the dash, then this is working OK, it's something further down the line that's at fault. Check all of your bulbs are OK when you flash with the alarm. If not, then the dead bulb could be one of the problems. The other thing that springs straight to my mind is the indicator relay, or possibly the indicators fuse. In the fuse box, check that you've got no dead fuses and if not, have a look at the indicator relay (pull it out and give it a shake... shaking2: Rattles aren't good in a relay! ) Should be an easy one to fix, especially if they were working a couple of days ago... You may well find that removing the relay and putting it back in again may make it work again, it could just be stuck... 8) Good luck, and welcome to the Forum! :D 8)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted September 22, 2003 I had that problem with an old Golf 16V and it turned out to be the Hazard Light switch, which is where the alarm fitters tap into to flash all 6 indicator bulbs at once when you chirp the alarm. If the bulbs are dud, you normally get a faster flash from the relay on the direction that is faulty. I'd check the wiring on the hazard switch. dubster82 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Welcome to the Forum Buster. I usually use the Volkscentre in Kingswells for my General work but when it comes to electrical problems they can fix some things like relay boxes and the likes, but not electrical faults. (They fixed my mates central locking, so they have a good idea). I Dont know if all alrms work through the Relay. I'd suppose they'd have too but im not sure. I thought it sounded like that too. What Colour of car have you got? and what Mods are you runnin? (this wont help you no, but i may see you going about )
Buster 0 Posted September 24, 2003 Hi Everyone, Thank you all for taking the time to reply :D It turns out it was just a loose relay. As was suggested, and that had come loose I imagine, becasue of the very firm ride! Driving through town is now a lot easier so thank you. Dubster, I have a red Corrado. No mods at all that I am aware of. Overall I am very happy with it. Its more than fast enough for me, the only thing I think I might want to do is get some better wheels. 'Wheels maketh the car' an all that Thanks again for everyone's replies, I will be sure an visit the site often Regards, Buster
