Evo Feature Day - Roundup/Pics on Page #4!

Recommended Posts

boyleonethebum, yep, don't see why not :-) Just not shout about the late notice ;-)

jazzdevil, the drop would have ruled you out, I am OK with wipers, but wheels and anything else were a no no so back to std tomorrow.

Not sure how much driving I will be doing, the main testing is by them on local roads, then photos at bedford. They are taking the best/their favorites onto north Wales on the thur/fri. They are not sure the rado will make it through, but it is a 5 Star car in EVO.

I know my Storm is not the best example VR6 in the world, but it runs very well and is still tight. Body work has seen better days but a valet the day before will make it look very nice for the pics (see link in my sig) Shame I can't keep the RCs on :-(

Hopefully it will do the Forum Proud.

Not sure, all I know is that there are at least some other FWD cars from the ages that have also had 5 Stars in EVO. I don't have a magazine to hand so don't know what they are.

There is an endless list of FWD cars you could consider to make up the numbers, you could have things like Honda CTR, different golf GTIs? Leon Cupra, Escort Cossy, Fiat Coupe, Calibra, Williams Clio... we will soon find out! Just hope we don't have to sign a non-disclosure style agreement and can spill the beans here next week.

Storm Warning, was the test yesterday or is it next week?

If the former, how did you get on?!

Meeting at Bedford Autodrome on Wednesday(5th July), photos there and testing by them on local roads... which I think is good news as the track would highlight the Std Rado VR6's short comings all too much IMHO.

If it performs well (I assume how much they like it in the absence of timing equipment) then I have to take it to North Wales for two days.

Hopefully we won't be prevented from showing "spy" pics on here by Evo ;-). They seem to be in a hurry to do this article so I assume it is for a very near issue (apparently it will be the cover too)

The good guys at Volkskraft had the car for a couple of days, for new brakes and a general check over... shes driving wonderful (tight, no rattles and everything works!)

Got it booked for a serious valet and hand polish on Tues, may try and detail the engine bay :-) I really hope it does well and doesn't let the side down. (Forum Stickers installed now)

Chubbybrown I am frantically try to get rid of as much fuel as poss so I can fill up on Optimax. I have found it make a huge difference in the VR. On the ferge of doing a 'ferris bullers day off' trick with the bricks......

this sounds awesome, am looking forward to seeing this.

surely the vr should more than hold it's own against that crowd?

as long as it doesn't lose to the calibra!!

do you think evo would notice if there was a shiny new super charger sat next to the engine?

Well, if there is a Calibra it would have to be a Kack Std 16v jobber as IIRC it was fwd whereas the Turbo was 4x4.... so no competition at all :-D

I think a charger would be a bit obvious ;-) I have been very honest with my totally standard form.. if there are other similar aged cars there I bet a few have been chipped and had minor suspension mods..ah well.. I am sure the rado looks and the VR sound will win them over :-)

Wasn't the Calibra V6 also FWD? Still, I can't see them bringing a Calibra along. It was never praised for its dynamics and was never really viewed in the same regard as the Corrado as a driver's car if you read any reviews from the time.

Yes, the V6 was FWD..you live and you learn....thanks! I think.. ;-) here's some prime examples of what they say (on one site I saw) is one of the most "under rated cars of all time!"

:D just got back from a cracking day with EVO. I'll let Mr Warning fill everyone in but I got to drive VW's MK1 GTi Press Car for the moving photos

Got some pictures to get up at some point too.

Today I took my Storm down to EVO to take part in an article, something along the lines of an all time FWD Group Test. The cars taking part were:

Corrado VR6

Golf GTI MK1

205 GTI

Lotus Elan S2

Focus RS

Integra Type-R

Barchetta

Puma

Golf GTI MK5

Clio Williams

106 Rallaye

306 Rallye

Clio Trophy 172

Clio 197

MINI GP

All the cars were took for "testing" on local roads, then we had to help with the pictures. Boyleonthebum got to drive the MK1 GTI, while we chased each other for the camera car, hopefully one of those shots gets into the mag.

From this line up the main highlights to me had to be the Mini GP and the MK1 GTI. The GTI is the actual VW press office car, totally Mint and only 37k on the clock. The Mini is just mental...looks mental sounds mental! I need one :-)

The 5 best that are going on for further testing were:

Clio Williams, Integra, Clio Trophy, MK5 GTI, 205 GTI....sadly doesn't include the Corrado but you have to admit its stiff competition. It should be a really good article from such a good line up. Mag should be out in August (Corrado will be on top left of the cover picture..probably tiny in the back ground ;-))

To top it all off they let us loose on part of the circuit at Bedford Autodrome, will try and get the clips ripped and uploaded.

Not sorted all the pics, Boyleonthebum should be able to contribute... heres a couple..

Sounds like a brilliant day! Shame it wasn't judged on looks- the C would've won hands down!
