double-6s 0 Posted July 8, 2006 Hi Anyone know anything about TAG Engineering? Its a vw/audi specialist (i think in Dorest somewhere, maybe near bournemouth?) that does engine rebuilds. Any info would be greatly appreciated :)
TIMMYVR 0 Posted July 15, 2006 Hi mate Tag Engineering is a small independant VW/AUDI specialist nothing to fancy but work carried out to a very high standard at very good prices. The Guys name is Toby, worked as a Vw technician for 14 years. Real nice bloke a good freind and as genuine as they come. He has done a lot of work for me. Knows a lot about ur quattros and has one running well over 300 bhp. Did you come down to dorset and look at a brilliant schwarz met vr6 recently mate? gaz the geezer 0 Posted July 15, 2006 Did you come down to dorset and look at a brilliant schwarz met vr6 recently mate? i brought double-6s down that way to have a look at a met black vr but it wasnt that brilliant tbh, laquer all peeling and poor respray patches and a few other odds n sods that really didnt reflect the asking price
TIMMYVR 0 Posted July 15, 2006 Thats my old Vr6 it was a lovely car before i sold it, leather/alcantara was in super condition, body and paint were pretty good, engine and box spot on, rebuilt by TAG and fresh clean as a whistle under the bonnet. It was really looked after, oil changes intervals less than 5k any problems rectified immediatley with all recipets to prove.. Due to a change in circumstances it had to go. :( .. Looked at it myself when Matt came over to weymouth recently; you are right paintwork not what it was, bit tatty inside and needs a new windscreen noisey alternator and tappets. Still goes very well for a near standard vr6 but the engine is noisey now compared to what it was. Shame really, might have bought it back for the memories it holds but for a lot less than 4k, its definatley not worth that much.
gaz the geezer 0 Posted July 15, 2006 ............. ah you must be the timmy that knocked up that bespoke car record folder for the receipts, i remember seeing your name on the front of it when we were checking it out, matt seemed like a decent enough guy when we met him and his bird is a bit of a hot number !!!! ......... that aside, me and will thought it was only worth about £2500 tops tbh, too much needed doing to make it a minter ( or near mint ), he seemed a little disgusted when we told him so but it wasnt what will was after ( after some discussion ) so we gave it a pass, looks like you certainly looked after it and i was suprised at the low cost of the repairs that tag engineering were charging :thumbleft:
TIMMYVR 0 Posted July 15, 2006 Yeah I think matt was a bit upset mate. but your right it does need a respray and that needs doing properly as well. What did you think of the interior? Toby at TAG was good as gold, we were waiting for some of the parts for about three weeks and he kept the car in his workshop every night securley until it was ready to pick up without a moan or charging us any extra. The engine was sweet as a nut when it came back, and a lot quiter with timing chains, tensioners etc done. Cant really fault toby for his work and at £25 an hour labour would recomend him to anyone. If you want his number let us know. Timmy
gaz the geezer 0 Posted July 15, 2006 ............... £25 per hour, thats not too bad at all !!!! most places are about the £35 - £40 p.h mark, the interior was going to be ripped out in favour of a leather one but it didnt look to bad, i was going to store it away when it came out .................. it may be a good idea to pm their number mr TIMMYVR, :thumbleft:
Craig 0 Posted July 17, 2006 just for any future reference where actually is TAG engineering? be useful if someone who sounds this honest and trustorthy was local. G-werks are brill but if its something that needs doing asap then may be useful for the future as its not easy getting the car to darren when its not running :( . Thats if he is even near bournemouth? cheers
double-6s 0 Posted July 17, 2006 Matt was upset about what mate? The offer I made? Sorry if he was, but 4k was unbelievably unrealistic for that car in its present state. And I hate to say it, but to be honest the engine was feeling a bit tired. It could just be that he doesn't open her up enough, but who knows. Hope he sells it :)
TIMMYVR 0 Posted July 17, 2006 I think he was upset cause in his mind he has got his price but like you say its worth no where near the asking price mate. He has driven that car very hard since he bought it off me and i hate to say it but reckon its been driven hard from cold more than a few timesand its not had the level of looking after that I gave it. one service in about 15k :( The engine sounded sweet when I sold it but its alot noisier now. Still pulled ok though when wound up.

TIMMYVR 0 Posted July 17, 2006 Totaly agree. Had my circumstances been different I would have kept it in the first place.
