Mansell 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Hi all, Has anyone had any work done on their Rado by a VW specialist in Kinver Nr. Stourbridge called Volks Cars. Also has anyone bought a car from them?
DaveStorm 0 Posted July 20, 2006 You mean these guys? http://stone.he.net/~csis01/volkscars/catalogue.php They have been discussed before, the general consensus was the cars are too expensive. Don't know about their servicing costs though, just ring 'em up and discuss what you need doing, then tell us before you get anything done..
Mansell 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Yeah that's them, was thinking of getting a car from them as they seem to be the only dealer I've found that are'nt too far away and deal in Corrados, and I need to part ex my current car (tried selling privately but with no joy). Any suggestions of other traders would be much appreciated. Reckon they are about £1k overpriced even though their cars seem to be minters so I guess it depends on how much they are prepared to be knocked down by. Walesy 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Mansell, Where have you tried selling your car mate? If you go to these type of places, they'll give you less than your car is worth as part ex, and then sell you a car for more than it's worth :? - which means ultimately you could be throwing away hundreds , or thousands of quids  . Also, try using the search :) : http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... =volkscars http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... =volkscars
Mansell 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Cheers Walesy, tried to search for them myself last night but could'nt find anything. I tried to sell it on the trader site and in my local paper but had little interest, and some paint problems on the o/s rear panel (I inherited due to dodgy work done on it by the trader I bought it from :( ) scared off those who saw it - might have a go at selling it at a bit more of a knocked down price, which will prob. still be more than I would get part ex. Guest Posted July 21, 2006 what is your current car?
Mansell 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Astra 1.6 sport  Had the Ice Grey Rado VR in my pic from last Dec until May at which point a 307 driver decided to stop on the exit of a roundabout which ended up in the front having a re-style and was subsequenty written off by the insurance company :( Tried to sell the astra whilst I had it but never managed it - so now trying to get rid before I buy my next Rado - miss the last one..... bit of a down grade to the astra lol. latestarter2 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Just bought a Vr6 off them...got a prob with the ignition switch which they are supposedly dealing with so I'll let you know how it goes..So far they're saying all the right things but as they say action speaks louder than words so....... Car is in good nick tho and goes like a dream. paid £6995.
Mansell 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Is that the green VR with cream leather?
latestarter2 0 Posted August 31, 2006 No i had the purple one with the black leather interior..the green and cream one had gone. he also had a green with black cloth interior and electric recaros for £6495 plus a nice S3 audi.
Mansell 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Nice, don't see your car on their site unless it is the twilight violet one? Not sure their stock list is up-to-date anyway as the price of that green VR with electric cloth recaros is £500 up on what is listed. From your other posts on the forum about the ignition switch I guess they have not held up their end of the warranty bargain?
latestarter2 0 Posted August 31, 2006 not really..they were gonna pay for the job to be done down here rather than travel 90miles up north. instead they are sending the mechanic to my house to do it which is good.
Mansell 0 Posted August 31, 2006 Christ that's good, I'm impressed.
latestarter2 0 Posted September 1, 2006 as i said saying all the right things but until he turns up???..lol Have to say tho they've been very very apologetic and rang me thorughout the week to try to sort it out. When the prob first raised its ugly head on friday and my 5 month pregnant G/Fr were stuck the mechanic (graham) came out after to work to temporarily fix it. John Woods who deals with the Corrados has been sort the permanent solution since. Seem nice genuine blokes...so fingers crossed

Mansell 0 Posted September 1, 2006 Yeah John seemed sound on the phone when I spoke with him. Nice car btw think I looked at it on their site a while back but I'm pretty sure the price was higher than £7k, did you manage to get him to knock much off? latestarter2 0 Posted September 1, 2006 nah I was more relieved to offload the 300zx i had in part ex!!...lol That was prob gonna cost me a fair few quid in the not too distant future so it was more a case of damage limitation..lol The zx was a great car to drive and went like S**t off a stick but when a recon gearbox would cost upwards of £3k!!! (should have seen johns face when i told him that little nugget) and as it was doing about 18mpg it was time to trim the expense a bit..well so the missus said anyway. besides we would'nt be able to get the future babies car seat in the back of the Zed either! Where did you get yours in the end?
latestarter2 0 Posted September 2, 2006 ok the mutts nuts really.. Graham (nemesis360) duly turned on a rainy crappy morning and fixed the car..Drove down from Kinver area (stourbridge) the change the ignition switch. Big thumbs up to these guys...excellent!!!!! Thoroughly recommended
Mansell 0 Posted September 2, 2006 £3k bloody nora! I bought my rado from a bloke in Manchester who's often on this forum (he-man) and had it until May this yr. at which point I was unfortunate enough to have an accident, and due to the bonnet, wing and front panel costing £2.5k from Volkswagen to replace before fitting, spraying etc. the insurance company wrote it off :( Absolutely loved it, a feeling not shared by my girlfriend lol. Mainly due to the fact that it cost me quite a bit to keep running as I had a fair few issues incl. having to replace the rad around 4 months after buying it so I think an RAC check will be in order before getting my next one. Good about the service, I too am trying to shift my existing car which I had before getting my rado and have got no-where fast which is one of the reasons Volkscars looked appealing as I can part ex it. latestarter2 0 Posted September 3, 2006 Well things are certainly getting interesting.. Volkscars duly turned up yesterday and fixed the ignition problem. :D Today tho the car decided to dump all its water, self kill the interior fan switch so it only works on the No4 setting and seize up the air direction switch so i cant turn it all the way round to the dash vent setting. :x plus it decided the best thing to do was spit the hot steam up through the windscreen air vents when the fans put on.. :( So lets see how they respond to my email from today...have to say im quitely confident they'll come through so fingers crossed...lol Not bad going for my first week of Corrado ownership!!
Mansell 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Christ it does'nt do things by halfs does it lol Yeah I believe the heater matrix failing could cause the steam, which seems to be a common fault. Plus the heater controls are notoriously fragile. After buying mine I realised that the temp. controls were not working, upon ringing VW for a quote on the part they informed me it was over £200 for the unit much to the surprise of the VW bloke :( Thankfully you'll get your replaced under warranty with a bit of luck. I have also heard of their being a weakness when changing the direction of air flow whilst on the top fan speed which can lead to seizing, some owners advise that you reduce the speed, change the direction, then increase speed again to cut the strain on the mechanism, not too helpful if you can't alter the fan speed. The joy of Corrado ownership :)

So once again big thumbs up.... :D
Mansell 0 Posted September 5, 2006 How did you guess :D Good that they have'nt questioned it, should be back on the road in no time then.
latestarter2 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Well...seems Volks are living up to recent performance..phone call today to say we'll be down on saturday to fix it at the house.. :D Great attitude and service all round.
latestarter2 0 Posted September 9, 2006 Well Graham has duly turned up to sort the heater matrix out..ie replace it. :D Great guy!! Err wouldnt recommend this to anyone who doesnt know what they are doing..The insides of my car are currently all over the floor and looks like a bombs gone off inside it..lol  I keep hearing phrases like "nah its ok just a big job" ..etc So im remaining panic free..lol Fingers crossed!!!!
