Taggart 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Right, I got 2 new keys for the rado.. £25, nice. Went to order one for the missus polo, and VAG are charging me £158 (£48 for the key and £110 to program it) Is there any way to program it yourself or am I gonna have to bite the bullet?
Supercharged 2 Posted August 4, 2006 £110!!! You can use VAGCOM i think but you still need an encryption key from VAG...
Taggart 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Can you order an encryption key? Figure it may be cost effective to get VAGCOM myself and do it.
Supercharged 2 Posted August 5, 2006 No unfortunatly - you need to have a friend at VW...

Supercharged 2 Posted August 5, 2006 I think they can chanrge what they like but most dealers do it for about £40 (30 mins labour - and it takes about 10!)
Taggart 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I nearly had a heart attack... this is one bad thing about living on the isle of man, only one dealer.
Nick 0 Posted August 7, 2006 I think they can chanrge what they like but most dealers do it for about £40 (30 mins labour - and it takes about 10!) I have a mate who used to work for rover, who said it takes literally a matter of minutes to program a key. If they're going to charge you £110, and you have no choice, ask what the mechanic rate per hour is, and then say you'll pay on the condition that you watch the whole process. THIEVES!!
Supercharged 2 Posted August 7, 2006 Might be worth calling GPC and seeing if they can do this kind of thing as they seem to have access to the parts system like the dealers do...
cymru-corrado 0 Posted August 14, 2006 your best off getting a key off ebay getting spare blade cut then just paying VW for coding

Taggart 0 Posted August 14, 2006 How much do you charge to program it? It's only the immobiliser, not a remote lock or anything.
cymru-corrado 0 Posted August 14, 2006 think the coding is just 1hr labour
